Job overview
The post holder will be part of a peripatetic team who will assist with the process of endoscope decontamination across all service areas within the Salford care organisation (NCA). She/he will be based in the Decontamination Units at the SCO, and will work as an assistant. The peripatetic team will cover weekdays, bank holidays, evenings, and weekend shifts on a rotational basis as part of a seven-day service.
Main duties of the job
1. Collect and receive used endoscopes into the designated dirty decontamination area, applying standard precautions for infection control and relevant health and safety measures.
2. Manually check and clean used endoscopes in line with local, national and manufacturer’s guidelines.
3. Prepare and load endoscopes into the Automated Endoscope Reprocessor (AER) and set the machine on decontamination cycle.
4. Document and sign confirmation of compliance for each stage of the decontamination process undertaken, ensuring that the electronic tracking and traceability system is completed accurately.
5. Monitor decontamination processes and the tracking and traceability system and report any issues or problems.
6. Unload decontaminated endoscopes from AER and prepare for transport or place into the drying cabinets, ensuring traceability system is updated accordingly.
7. Comply with the Trust’s Health and Safety Policy which outlines responsibilities regarding Health & Safety at Work.
8. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment i.e. disposable gloves, gown and eye protection.
9. Undertake quality assurance checks on the endoscope tracking and traceability system; ensuring endoscopes stored in the drying cabinets are within the permitted decontamination storage timeframe.
10. Check daily decontamination room preparation checks and confirm compliance on recording sheets for future validation.
11. Check and confirm that the nightly AER machine self-decontamination cycle has been done and cycle completed satisfactorily, recording in relevant checklist folders.
12. Replenish AER decontamination chemicals according to AER machine guidelines and health and safety protocols.
13. Be personally responsible for effective communication with the satellite area coordinators, giving regular updates on the processing of equipment that is required.
14. Report any incidents, accidents, complaints, or defects in equipment to the area coordinators and decontamination supervisor/manager.

Qualifications
* General standard of education to certification level
* Knowledge and understanding of type of work involved and awareness of working in healthcare environment
