Role Overview
Our leading global engineering client is looking for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team at their site based in Fareham. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and implementing solutions to execute requirements for project needs across the aerospace industry.
Key Responsibilities
* Collaborate with both internal and external aerospace clients, suppliers, and engineering teams across mechanical, systems, and hardware functions, both on-site and within the broader organization.
* Oversee and manage mechanical engineering requirements, ensuring alignment with customer specifications or system designs. Validate these requirements according to industry standards, demonstrate compliance through design documentation, and confirm implementation through various verification techniques (such as testing, inspection, and analysis).
* Create work estimates and project plans to assist project managers, actively tracking progress and revising plans as project milestones are achieved.
* Work effectively within cross-functional teams to drive new product development, product enhancements, or support operational needs. Lead by example, providing guidance and support to colleagues while sharing mechanical expertise.
* Mentor and assist in the development of apprentices, interns, and junior engineers to strengthen team capabilities, following the company's high-performance systems.
* Take an active role in driving continuous improvement within the department, leading efforts to enhance mechanical processes, tools, and workflows to increase efficiency, while maintaining compliance with industry regulations.
Key Experience & Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
* Extensive experience in mechanical engineering, particularly in a leadership role
* Proven track record of successfully managing engineering projects from conception to completion
* Strong understanding of engineering principles, processes, and best practices
* Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on innovation and quality
* Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across different teams and disciplines
* Experience in mentoring and developing junior engineers
