The organisation
CITB is the Construction Industry Training Board for England, Scotland and Wales, and a partner in the Sector Skills Council. Representing every part of our industry, we shape how training is delivered and funded to meet the sector’s evolving needs.
CITB aims to support the industry to have a skilled, competent and inclusive workforce, now and in the future. We seek to build a workforce that reflects Britain’s diverse population, and people from under-represented groups are encouraged to apply for vacancies. Working for CITB gives you the opportunity to make a difference in the health, safety and environment of the UK construction industry.
CITB Product Management is responsible for many key CITB products, and for ensuring these align with industry needs, have maximum impact, and develop alongside evolving technologies. Products include the successful suite of Site Safety Plus (SSP) courses, examinations and publications, and the HS&E tests for operatives, specialists, managers and professionals.
The role
As a subject matter expert in the Product Management team, you will be responsible for decision-making in your specific area, and work in collaboration with project teams. You will have significant impact on product development, and be responsible for maintaining and developing content, ensuring that it is technically and legislatively accurate.
You will need highly developed writing skills to transfer technical information across into educational content, through writing exam questions, updating and writing text for publications, and producing eLearning scripts.
This role would be suited to individuals with experience in construction-related training who have developed and delivered curriculums in further education, and who have held a role at a management or advisory level on projects within their HS&E specialist areas.
You will work as part of our small team of technical developers, ranging from leading on HS&E content for courses through to peer reviewing, image sourcing and responding to industry challenges. It’s a fast-paced environment, and you will deal with a wide variety of topics and queries.
You will help create innovative and high-quality products with support from a dedicated project team, while co-ordinating and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
Key activities
You will:
8. Apply HS&E expertise and research in support of the development, re-development and maintenance of HS&E content across SSP courses, HS&E testing products, supporting publications and educational documentation.
9. Develop, review and rewrite publications, schemes of work, eLearning courses and examination questions to ensure alignment with industry challenges and focus areas.
10. Translate technical material into high-quality written content and use plain English to ensure that products are accessible and relevant to all audiences.
11. Deliver work packages as part of a project team, meet agreed deadlines and be responsible for decision-making.
12. Keep up to date with legislative changes and developments in construction, as well as evolving technologies, that impact product content.
13. Take part in and present project meetings with external stakeholders and attend industry and federation meetings as CITB’s HS&E representative.
14. Be accountable for your own continuous professional development, to ensure that you remain a current subject matter expert.
15. Review external complaints, queries or challenges relating to CITB products’ HS&E content, and respond with factual, evidence-based information.
16. Demonstrate positive, collaborative behaviours and effectively communicate with colleagues and external individuals.
About you
Key attributes for the role are:
17. Extensive HS&E knowledge, and experience of working in construction environments and on sites.
18. Demonstrable experience of a specialist HS&E area such as the environment, temporary works or tunnelling.
19. As a minimum, a NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction (UK) or NEBOSH Environmental Certificate (or equivalent).
20. A membership in your relevant specialism - such as IOSH or IEMA - would be desirable, and established links with specialist organisations such as the Temporary Works forum or Tunnel Skills.
21. A further educational qualification, such as a Certificate in Education or Post Graduate Certificate in Education, would be advantageous due to the role’s educational elements.
22. Excellent organisation and time management, alongside highly developed and confident writing and presenting skills.
23. The ability to translate technical material for a range of audiences, and understand the essential fundamentals of assessment, education and training.
24. A commitment to maintaining a current knowledge of legislation and HS&E industry developments and innovations. CITB will also support your ongoing learning and development.
