School Librarian
35 hours per week (Term Time Only)
Fixed Term for one year with a view to the role being made permanent.
Start Date: June 2025
Scale: 5. Pt 12 to 15 depending upon experience,
Actual pro rated Salary: £28,730.62 - £30,014.79 (gross)
We are a comprehensive inner London secondary school with a diverse intake of students from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. We were graded as Good in all aspects during our last Ofsted Inspection (April 2023).
We are looking for an organised, enthusiastic and proactive individual to lead and develop our school library. The successful candidate will be passionate about reading and enjoy working with young people. Reading for pleasure and literacy is at the heart of what we do as a school, as we strive to create a community where ‘every child is a scholar.’ We are looking for an individual who shares these values and recognises the importance of reading in the lives of young people.
Responsibilities include:
· Taking charge of the day to day running of the library, including before school and during break and lunchtimes
· Supervising students in the library and managing behaviour where appropriate
· Assisting with library lessons
· Working with colleagues to promote reading across the school through extra-curricular events
· Shelving, tidying, catalouging and repairing books
· Ensuring library users know how to use the library’s equipment
· Dealing with queries from students and staff
· Maintaining an appropriate learning environment that promotes the school vision and cornerstones
· Monitoring engagement with the library through borrowing data
· Leading literacy interventions with students as directed
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

* A knowledge and love of children’s literature
* A self-motivated, imaginative and proactive attitude
* The ability to communicate effectively with all members of the school community
* The confidence and skills to be able to instruct groups of young people
* Experience of using ICT to access and retrieve information
* Experience of working within a library setting
* Experience of working with young people
