Buildings and Refurbishments Supervisor
Location: UKAEA, Culham, Oxfordshire

Overall Purpose
UKAEA is seeking a highly experienced Buildings and Refurbishments Supervisor to join our Buildings and Refurbishments Group within the Buildings and Estates Management Department. The successful candidate will project manage a wide range of building refurbishment works, ensuring adherence to UKAEA processes, property strategy, regulatory requirements, and time and cost constraints. This role also involves contributing to continuous improvements in construction quality, safety, health, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Project Management: Oversee the delivery of civil engineering and construction refurbishment projects from inception to completion. This includes working with various contractors, including the Building and Civil Engineering term contractor and external contractors. Tasks include stakeholder liaison, work coordination, supervision of onsite works, and final account completion.
* Technical Contact: Formulate, analyze, and evaluate scopes of work for building refurbishment projects. Collaborate on the development of tender packages.
* Onsite Management: Ensure safe, timely, cost-effective, and quality-compliant delivery of civil works, excavations, refurbishments, and demolition projects.
* Site Visits: Conduct regular site visits, attend daily meetings, and manage any difficulties encountered.
* Quality Assurance: Provide recommendations on work quality that does not conform to plans, specifications, or schedules. Monitor onsite work according to Method Statements and Health and Safety Plans. Raise UNORs for identified breaches and take necessary actions.
* Documentation: Maintain a daily diary of contractor activities, weather conditions, safety observations, and issues. Issue weekly reports to the Contract Project Manager.
* Contract Management: Examine contract documents and drawings for discrepancies, attend pre-contract meetings, and monitor project progress according to the construction program.
* Inspection and Handover: Prepare and attend snagging inspections, manage snagging resolution, and ensure defect rectification before the expiration of the defects liability period.
* Quality Standards: Compare work against approval samples to ensure consistent quality standards. Follow and sign off quality plans at requisite points.
* Collaboration: Work with site stakeholders to facilitate timely permits, inspections, and approvals.
Budget Responsibility
Influence and manage significant sums through data provision to manage contractual terms.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* Educated to a minimum HNC level or equivalent in construction/engineering.
* Extensive experience in managing construction and engineering works.
* SMSTS qualification.
* Excellent organizational skills for prioritizing workload and completing tasks on time.
* Acute attention to detail for checking drawings.
* Discreet and professional approach.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work to tight deadlines and flexibility to respond to changing priorities.
* Understanding of Health and Safety and project management.
* Ability to manage own development towards department and organizational goals.
Desirable
* Street Works qualification.
Other Duties
Occasional extended hours and weekend working will be required.
