Role Overview We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Early Years Practitioner to take on the SENCO role. This critical position supports children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), ensuring they thrive through tailored interventions and collaborative practices. The SENCO will coordinate SEND provisions while mentoring team members and partnering with families and external professionals. Key Responsibilities Supporting SEND Policies and Practices Collaborate with leadership and staff to develop and implement inclusive SEN policies. Manage the day-to-day execution of SEND strategies across the nursery. Apply the graduated approach (assess, plan, do, review) to support individual children. Provide guidance to team members on implementing tailored interventions. Team Collaboration and Development Mentor colleagues to build their confidence in supporting SEND children. Identify professional development opportunities to enhance team capabilities. Facilitate training on SEND strategies, safeguarding, and inclusive practices. Engaging Families Partner with parents and caregivers to ensure they are informed, supported, and involved in decision-making. Host workshops and provide resources on topics like understanding behaviour, EHCPs, and accessing support services. Liaison with Professionals Collaborate with external partners such as area SENCOs, healthcare professionals, and social care teams. Stay informed about local SEND resources and funding opportunities. Advocate for children’s needs through multi-agency collaboration. Professional Growth and Reflection Continuously update knowledge of SEN, safeguarding, and early year’s best practices. Reflect on personal and team practices to identify opportunities for growth and improvement. Safeguarding and Health Adhere to all safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure children’s safety and well-being. Report concerns promptly and maintain high standards of confidentiality. Promote health, safety, and equality across all aspects of the nursery. What We’re Looking For Essential Skills and Experience At least 3 years of experience supporting disabled children and their families. A minimum of 2 years in a SEND-focused role within an early years setting. Expertise in managing complex social communication and sensory processing needs. Strong knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements. Ability to collaborate effectively with families, colleagues, and external professionals. Desirable Skills Familiarity with OFSTED inspections and compliance requirements. Experience developing and delivering training on SEND and inclusion.
