Job Title: Play Worker
Reports to: Children’s Project Manager
Hours: Casual – variable hours
Role: To provide a safe, creative and appropriate play opportunities in the After School Club (ASC) and Holiday Projects (HPS) for children aged 4-11
Job Summary
Are you passionate about creating safe, fun, and engaging play opportunities for children? Tarner Community Project is seeking a dedicated Play Worker to join our team. In this role, you will assist the Children’s Project Manager (or in their absence the designated senior staff member) in delivering high-quality services for children aged 4-11 in our After School Club (ASC) and Holiday Projects (HPS). As a proactive team member, you will help ensure a safe, creative, and enjoyable environment for all children contributing to their development and well-being. Key duties:
1. Be a pro-active, committed team member, with the aim of maintaining an excellent, professional service always.
2. Self-motivated - input into planning and preparation of all activities.
3. Seek opportunities to participate fully in sessions and actively work to support one another to deliver the best service possible.
4. Work directly with children including: playing, talking, educating, comforting, listening and setting clear boundaries.
5. Ensure the safe care for the children during ASC and Holiday Projects, including the preparation of food and the administration of first aid where appropriate.
6. Understand and meet children's individual needs including those of children with additional needs or children in need of extra support and consideration.
7. Where required, assist the Children’s Project Manager with the day-to-day administration, record keeping and equipment necessary to run the ASC and Holiday Projects smoothly and professionally.
8. Undertake the safe collection of children from local schools, including liaison with parents, carers and school staff.
9. Be committed to and work within the guidelines and policies set out by the organisation and the ASC and Holiday Projects, including, but not limited to – Health and Safety, Child Protection, Safeguarding, Confidentiality and Equal Opportunities and Diversity.
10. Work with other workers and volunteers as a team to foster a sense of involvement of children and their families and to develop best practice.
11. Undertake appropriate induction and receive ongoing training and guidance, in line with the requirements of your role as defined by your line manager.
12. Be an ambassador for the project - promote the work of Tarner Community Project through interaction with parents, events, local schools and other networks.
13. Work with the Children’s Project Manager to abide by any recommendation made by OFSTED in their inspection of the ASC and Holiday Projects.
14. Actively participate in team feedback sessions.
15. Alert The Children’s Project Manager the CEO or a senior staff member of any issues regarding safeguarding or child safety immediately.
16. Set and maintain professional boundaries with the children, staff and parents.
17. Receive regular supervisions and annual appraisals from the Children’s Project Manager in accordance with the supervision policy and appraisal guidelines.
18. Work within the guidelines of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
19. Maintain a smart, clean professional appearance always, wear branded clothing as provided and ensure hair is tied back when cooking.
20. Hold up to date Food Hygiene certification and enhanced DBS check.
21. Carry out any other responsibilities considered reasonable, as directed by the Children’s Project Manager.

Job Type: Zero hours contract
Pay: £12.00-£12.40 per hour
Expected hours: 3.75 – 18.75 per week
