Purpose of the Role: The Manufacturing Engineer is a role focusing on two main areas: 1) design for manufacturing and assembly principles to allow successful and efficient transition from design into production. 2) Supporting the manufacturing and production teams by resolving challenges experienced in the manufacture and servicing of our product lines, such as sensors, alternators, electronic control systems, powertrain invertors and interface units designed primarily for the motorsport market. Positioned between production and engineering teams, this role is the main technical interface between the two and includes post design support work for products in production. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and form close working relationships with other Engineering functions, Product Management and Production Teams. Principle Accountabilities · Supporting the engineering team in the development of new products and readying them for handover to the Production department. · Providing & coordinating DFM (Design for Manufacture), DFA (Design for Assembly) and DFT (Design for Test) inputs on New Product designs. · Manage the build of prototype units, translating the programme delivery requirements into an operational build plan, identifying constraints in resource and equipment, feeding it back into the programme for alignment. · Migrate existing document packages over to the new format. · Undertake PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis) on new product developments. · Identification and development of specialised equipment and tooling to improve Production efficiencies and quality. · Fully contribute to the process of continuous improvement and the company goal of achieving zero defects in accordance with ISO9001 certified quality management systems requirements. · Create and update electronic documentation in Aegis MES for new and existing products. · Work autonomously within established procedures and practices. · Address Improvement Logs raised by the production team relating to design, tooling or drawing changes. · Be responsible for correcting non-conformances related to tooling, documentation or product design. · Aid the Production and Quality teams in 8D investigations. · Use a data-led approach to improve the McLaren Applied product range in production and collaborate with Product Managers and Production Managers to prioritise. · Be capable of updating specifications and create production build and test instructions. · Where design changes have been implemented, test and validate that the specification has been met. · Communicate with clarity to key stakeholders at all levels of our business, customer organisations and supply partners. · Produce and confidently deliver impactful presentations to internal and external audiences. · Help to continually improve our team’s processes and enhancements to our tool sets Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience 1st or 2nd class Degree in Engineering (Hardware and/or Electrical) Comprehensive understanding of relevant IPC standards (IPC-610, J-Standard, 7711). Good knowledge and understanding of electro-mechanical products and manufacturing processes at both PCBA and box build/HL (High Level) assembly. Understanding of electronic equipment design and test processes.
