Flitwick Surgery is seeking a reliable and experienced practice nurse to join the nursing team and work on a part time basis for 17 hours per week, due to a current member of staff reducing their working hours. For operational reasons the days of work need to be Thursday and Friday, on a fixed term or permanent contract. The successful candidate will be able to work in a fast-moving environment and enjoy regular patient contact. You will be able to deliver excellent patient care, positively representing the practice and strengthening the relationship between patients and the surgery. You will need good communication and clinical skills, to be able to manage the workload, work within our practice teams and have a good understanding of the practice nurse role. We are a practice open to change. The role of the practice nurse has evolved over the past 5 years, and we expect it to continue doing so. We support our practice nurse team in consolidating existing skills and acquiring new skills with training and supervision. About the Candidate All applicants should have the following qualifications, registrations, skills and experience: A relevant nursing degree. Current NMC registration with an active PIN. Fundamentals of Practice Nursing Course (General Practice Nurse Foundation) or equivalent experience and qualifications. Evidence of training, clinical skills and experience in treatment room consultation, phlebotomy, ECG recording, vaccinations, and immunisations as well as dressing and wound care. Supporting patients with sexual health, smear taking and contraception medication checks. A knowledge of travel vaccinations and able to provide advice to patients. Undertaking health checks and providing public health advice on lifestyle changes and smoking cessation. Compassionate manner with an emphatic approach and demonstrable kindness in all aspects of your work. Value the dignity of our patients, their relatives, and carers. Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and the wider NHS as well as primary care. A knowledge of long-term conditions such as diabetes or respiratory illnesses would be desirable but not essential. About Us Flitwick Surgery is a busy practice serving a population of 14,250 patients. Run as a partnership the clinical teams consists of GPs, minor illness nurses, practice nurses, pharmacists and HCAs. We are a training practice for GPs and pharmacy students. We promote continual development for all our staff and this includes providing training and support to our nurses to expand their skills and competencies. We are part of a Green Vale Health with PCN staff, paramedic, pharmacist, health coach and care co-ordinators, working closely with practice staff. As a commuter town in rural Bedfordshire, the practice population is diverse, seeing patients at all life stages. We have good links to the A6 and M1, having car parking for staff and are a 5 minutes’ walk from both Flitwick train station and bus routes.
