Applications are invited to replace a newly retired Haematology Consultant post, to join a well-established and cohesive Macmillan Haematology Unit at NGH. This post has been approved to support further service development for the future, with an option of leading and running the Transplant Service. The department provides a comprehensive clinical and laboratory haematology service for the acute trust and primary care, managing inpatients with a full range of haematological conditions (excluding ALL and aplastic anaemia) to BCSH Level 2b (2010).
The Unit has been accredited for autologous transplantation by JACIE. The trust is a cancer centre and is part of the East Midlands Cancer Clinical Network. NGH is linked to Oxford haemophilia centre for comprehensive care.
Main duties of the job
* To have a special interest in one of the major branches of Haematology; an interest in haematological malignancy is essential, and an interest in haemoglobinopathy would be desirable.
* Share responsibility for the clinical haematology service, including liaison with clinicians, other hospital staff, and general practitioners in the diagnosis and management of haematological disorders.
* Provide continuing responsibility for patients in their charge and in partnership with colleagues working for the proper function of the department.
* Share responsibility for the diagnostic services with the other Consultant Haematologists, including the day-to-day responsibility of diagnostic tests and interpretation as required.
* Show responsibility for professional standards within the laboratory and ensure compliance with the standards required to satisfy CPA [UKAS] Limited.
* Participate with the other Consultant Haematologists in the management of the department.
* Demonstrate a firm commitment to clinical governance, including participation in effective clinical, medical records, and laboratory audit and continuing medical education.
* Contribute to management within the Trust through the Directorate.
* Undertake duties appropriate for a consultant haematologist, not otherwise specified.
* Participate in all teaching programs for medical staff, medical students, and other hospital employees as required.
* Comply with Trust appraisal and revalidation processes.

Qualifications and Training
* Primary medical qualification, FRCPath or show evidence of equivalent qualification.
* Wide knowledge and experience of Haematology.
* UK trained applicants must be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by the date of interview.
* Non-UK trained applicants will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
* MD, PhD or other higher degree.
Other requirements
* Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
Teaching, Audit and Quality Improvement
* Experience of audit and quality improvement in Haematology.
* Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Interpersonal Skills
* High level organisational skills.
* Communication skills.
