Streetwise Opera is looking for a freelance stage manager to work with us on Re:Discover – our flagship festival taking place in summer 2024.
Re:Discover Festival is a celebration of Britain’s African and Caribbean heritage through the voices of people with experience of homelessness. The festival includes the world-premiere of a triple bill of new operas, co-created by participants in Streetwise Opera workshops working side-by-side with world class artists, and inspired by the music of composers of African and Caribbean heritage. Each opera is circa 15 mins in length and will be presented as part of a festival of work taking place in London, Manchester and Nottingham this summer.
Main Purpose of the Position

* The SM will work in the rehearsal room alongside the Regional Producer to undertake general tasks such as mark-up, set props and be on the book and confirm any last tweaks to the book
* Create a PowerPoint version of the libretto to be used as prompt for performers. This will be fed to a screen on stage that the performers can see.
* The SM may also be required to work with the Regional Producer to coordinate props / setting any final things up ahead of the first day of tech / performances.
* The SM will be required for the whole of the 2 performance days in order to cue the show (there will be relatively minimal lighting, sound and A/V cues given the nature of the show) and to be part of team to set up the performance space and support the performers.
