As an Assistant Manager in our residential home, you will play a vital role in ensuring our home operates at the highest standards, consistently achieving a 'good' rating from Ofsted. You will support the Registered Manager in providing exceptional care and leadership, creating a nurturing environment where every child can thrive.
Responsibilities:
1. Champion Quality: Ensure the home consistently meets Quality Standards and Children's Homes Regulations, striving for excellence in every aspect of our service.
2. Lead with Confidence: In the absence of the Registered Manager, take charge of Regulation 44 monitoring visits, Ofsted inspections, complaint handling, and management investigations.
3. Safeguard and Protect: Act as a designated safeguarding lead, committed to protecting young people and ensuring their safe return if they go missing.
4. Empower Our Team: Provide formal and informal supervision, conduct appraisals, and drive the development of our dedicated staff.
5. Share Your Expertise: Contribute to the learning and development of the residential team, ensuring compliance with Children's Homes Standards and Regulations.
6. Manage Performance: Oversee probationary periods for new starters and actively participate in performance management.
7. Collaborate and Communicate: Work effectively with children, families, professionals, and partners, attending meetings and establishing strong lines of communication.
8. Meet Diverse Needs: Support the physical and emotional well-being of children, considering their individual racial, cultural, religious, linguistic, and dietary needs.
9. Provide Compassionate Care: Understand the impact of trauma, neglect, and abuse, responding with empathy, resilience, and understanding to challenging behaviour.
10. Ensure a Safe Environment: Be physically fit to carry out all requirements of the post, including the use of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) techniques.
11. Medication Management: Adhere to safe handling of medication procedures, ensuring children receive the right dosage at the prescribed times.
12. Financial Oversight: Manage petty cash, procurement cards, and monitor expenditure in line with Trust policies.
13. Work Flexibly: Contribute to rota management, working unsociable hours, shifts, weekends, bank holidays, and potentially supporting overnight trips and holidays.
14. Monitor and Audit: Ensure all children's files are up to date, statutory documentation is completed, and remedial action is taken promptly.
15. Maintain Confidentiality: Act in accordance with GDPR requirements when handling information.
Minimum Requirements:
* Level 3 Diploma in Residential Child Care or equivalent
* Experience in a supervisory or management role
* Substantial experience of direct work with children and young people
* Excellent understanding of child protection procedures
