The Role and the Department
The Student Immigration and Funding Service (SIFS) works with internal colleagues and external partners to provide high quality advice and support relating to immigration legislation and financial support for both undergraduate and postgraduate students and applicants. The immigration services provided by SIFS include:
1. Provision of Student immigration advice to students, academic and professional services staff.
2. Right to study checks for all students subject to immigration regulation.
3. Monitoring of academic engagement for Student visa holders.
4. Use of UKVI's Sponsor Management System (SMS) to report changes to student circumstance.
5. Provision of Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) for continuing students.
6. Right to work checks for Student visa holders being employed at the University.
The Service is part of the Student & Academic Services Directorate (SASD), which provides professional administrative support to University staff, students, and applicants. The Academic Registrar heads the Directorate and is responsible to the Vice Provost for its management. The following services fall under the SASD's remit:
1. Access and Engagement
2. Curriculum, Learning and Assessment
3. Recruitment and Admissions
4. Student Immigration and Funding
5. Student Registry
All of these services are based at either the Palatine Centre or Mountjoy Centre in Durham City.
