Services. The role will be located within the contracts team and involve carrying out legal work on and in relation to (i) the University's externally funded research arrangements; and (ii) St Andrews Innovation Ltd, a subsidiary company of the University set up to help transform research into world-leading innovation by lending support and resources to nurture early-stage ideas and nourish their development. As part of this role, there will also be opportunities to carry out a wider range of legal work within the University, with a focus on contract negotiations and commercial matters, particularly as Legal Services within the University develops., In addition to the above, the Legal Counsel role will include:
* assisting the Senior Legal Counsel with managing the team and allocating work
* building and maintaining relationship with colleagues across the University
* providing guidance and advice as required
* working with the Chief Legal Officer, Senior Legal Counsel and members of the University's senior management team to provide expert advice and guidance on a range of contract and commercial negotiations across the University's diverse portfolio of interests.
With demonstrable knowledge and experience suited to this role, you will be a team player with the ability to work and build strong relationships with colleagues.
You will be able to provide a sound and secure legal and commercial basis for the University's externally funded research work. This means, on a day-to-day basis, leading on/managing a caseload of contracts and negotiations. A self-starter, you will possess excellent attention to detail, communication and interpersonal skills, sound judgement, and be able to use your initiative in order to meet deadlines and service standards.
