We are looking to recruit a professional and enthusiastic person to join the Leader and Cabinet support team. The role requires the individual to have strong administrative skills, with a high level of political awareness.
You would be working in the corporate centre of the authority and would provide advice and support to the Leader of the Council and the Cabinet, helping them to deliver for local residents and achieve the aims and priorities of the council. The role is part of a small team and you would be providing comprehensive executive support for the Leader, and secondarily the wider Cabinet, in the effective and efficient management of their portfolio responsibilities.
The postholder will develop their skills in a range of fields such as communications, policy, governance, and stakeholder management. You will have the opportunity to provide advice in relation to Cabinet Members’ portfolios, prepare agendas and notes, write briefings and speeches, and be a key point of contact in helping to build and maintain relationships between councillors, senior officers, residents, and key partners.
You will play an important role in developing a forward planning system for forthcoming council business and council work programmes. The post also supervises the Leader and Cabinet Administrative Officer and works closely with the Political Group Officer of the administration.
The postholder must have excellent interpersonal skills, show discretion, and have political awareness. You will need to be flexible and proactive, able to manage competing priorities under pressure. The successful candidate is likely to have experience of dealing with elected members, senior officers, and the public; and practical experience/knowledge of local government services.
