As a key member of the World-Wide Amazon Stores (WWAS) Talent Management team within the People, Experience and Technology (PXT) organization, the Principal TM Tech Leader role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute your experience and passion for all things talent technology in a complex and global business. This individual will lead customer-centric strategic talent management initiatives, plans, and programs and will work closely with World Wide Amazon Stores Tech business teams and HR leaders.
This role is dedicated to organizations within our Tech remit, and will report into the WWAS Tech Line Talent Management leader and be part of a broader team of talent management professionals who support the WWAS (World Wide Amazon Stores) businesses.
This individual will be the co-pilot with business and PXT Leaders for all core people processes, including Org Planning and Org Design, Leadership Forecasting, Leadership Promotions (L8+), Performance Calibration, Succession Planning, and integration of Diversity Equity and Inclusion into the overall talent strategy. They will work with their team to define, build, refine, and implement progressive and industry-defining talent practices that support a subset of the WWAS Tech businesses.
Key job responsibilities
The ideal candidate plays the role of strategist who masterfully uses data to tell a compelling story, connect dots, and integrate into a practical talent strategy for Amazon’s WW Consumer business. The scope of responsibilities includes gaining and applying business acumen while conducting needs analysis, assessing macro trends, and translating data-driven analysis into an overarching talent strategy for the organization they support, all in partnership with business HR teams.
The candidate must be skilled at anticipating problems, creating contingency plans, managing multiple priorities, problem solving and organizing logistics. The candidate should also be detailed oriented with the demonstrated ability to execute talent programs and initiatives in partnership with HR and business stakeholders. The candidate should possess functional knowledge of core HR areas preferably with experience in Talent Management, Organization Development, or as an HR Business Partner. The candidate should be self-driven and possess the ability to work in an ambiguous and global environment with minimal guidance or supervision.
Key job responsibilities
• Develop and implement Talent Management plans and solutions in order to achieve strategic business initiatives. Ensure talent readiness by creating mechanisms such as: Success Profiles, Talent Assessment and Leadership Investment Planning based on the business needs.
• Partner with business leaders and HR leaders to define and establish a long-term talent strategy that may include: identifying critical jobs, determining talent gaps, assessing internal as well as external availability, and developing long term plans to bridge the gaps.
• Lead and run need-based Talent Management projects with clients across teams and globally: driving and conducting needs analysis, creating and executing against talent plans/roadmaps, and reporting and audit of existing programs. Look at cross-business themes and integrate into the over-arching talent management strategy for the business.
• Create processes that enable identifying and surfacing top talent to business and HR leaders in deploying the right employee, to the right job at the right time.
• Identify appropriate metrics to measure effectiveness of talent management initiatives.
• Partner with the HR community, including specialty functions and teams, to design and implement programs with a global impact. Recognize and adapt global best practices as appropriate.
• Create process improvement mechanisms including automation on some of the existing processes/tools to ensure standardization and consistency as we scale.
• Lead a team of passionate talent management professionals.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years of HR experience in a fast-paced environment.
- 7 + years managing high-performing teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Organizational Development, Industrial/Organizational Psychology.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Human Resources Management, Organizational Development, Industrial/Organizational Psychology and/or an MBA highly preferred.
- Background and experience working in the technology space.
- Experience with leading organizational design efforts.
- A strong portfolio of work demonstrating skills and breadth of work across multiple HR disciplines.
- Ability to work in a highly ambiguous environment and interest in supporting a global team across multiple time zones.
- Ability to figure things out without a road map, transform organizations, as well as break the mold in terms of ways to re-frame and solve problems.
- Possess a high level of integrity, judgment, and discretion in handling confidential information.
- Ability to handle responsibilities independently, while exercising good judgment in problem solving and keeping team members adequately informed.
- Strong ability to analyze data to solve complex business problems.
- Ability to influence and collaborate with different levels of the organization to achieve results.
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately in time sensitive matters and organized to manage and track multiple priorities simultaneously – grace under pressure and the ability to switch gears at a moment’s notice.
- Passionate about cultivating talent and their ability to achieve greatness.
- Excellent written and verbal skills as well as prioritization and planning skills – with strong attention to detail.
- To be successful, the person in this role will need to demonstrate analytical capabilities, a process improvement mentality and ability to influence others with data-driven recommendations.
- Confidence in dealing with senior level staff and ability to communicate in a crisp, concise, and professional manner.
- HR Project Management experience with experience in scoping, leading and delivering complex projects. The right candidate will have a track record of project management from conception and design through implementation, measurement and continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of program management lifecycle and project management tools.
- Understands the features and detailed functional requirements of the work, as well as the end user’s/customer’s needs.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $134,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $222,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
