Job Description Component Design Engineer - Additive Full Time Bristol Why Rolls-Royce? An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Component Design Engineer - Additive to join the Digital Design and Industrialisation (DD&I) Team within the ET&S capability in Bristol. As a Component Design Engineer - Additive, you’ll play a vital role in enabling the delivery of our Group Engineering, Technology & Safety (ET&S) Strategy. The Digital Design and Industrialisation (DD&I) Team, are responsible for the following: Delivery of rules, tools and methods Additive and Composite Design strategic capability. Delivering automation work that benefits component designers Delivery of High Value Digital Design (HVDD) elements Leading the Product Definition specialism Supporting the global Divisions (Defence, civil and Power Systems) to deliver for our customers. This role will support Defence Future Programs in delivery of the Defence combat strategy. You will be driving forward Additive Manufacture Technology supporting opportunities for industrialisation and automation of digital tools, lead and support global community working with Manufacturing Engineers and Materials to ensure alignment of strategy and lead and support global Communities of Practice as well as supporting the development of Additive capability within the business. What you will be doing: Delivery of Additive Manufacture (AM) strategic capability for ET&S. This includes development of rules, tools and methods in line with the global DD&I Component Design Strategy. Deliver design solutions for component(s), complex assemblies and whole engines in consideration of safety, manufacturing capability, product physical and functional robustness. Design solutions also should address Unit Cost, Lifecycle Cost, Weight, Maintainability, Repair. Quality Assurance through checking of design documents, models, drawings in accordance with RRMS technical requirements and proactive Zero Defects approaches (Elimination of Non-Conformance/Zero Defects/Delivery of Producibility within a Manufacturing Environment) Create and use automated and integrated Digital tool sets. When repeat design is anticipated, create automated work flows to enable the design of the component utilising house style, standard features, and standard assessments to define the optimum design as part of automated MBD, manufacture and measurement definitions. Establish and adoption of lean principles like standardisation/house style to achieve solutions and producible components in a repeatable fashion. Improvements to design methods, rules and tools to achieve robustness. Application of Robust Design, Systems Engineering, Risk Management (xFMEA) and Design in Context to ensure right first time can be achieved. Bachelor's degree or Master's in Engineering or regional equivalent qualification, or equivalent experience Strong technical knowledge in mechanical design methodologies and have an understanding of cross-discipline engineering concepts which include but are not limited to manufacturing engineering (in particular relating to Laser Powder Bed Fusion processes), aerodynamics, thermodynamics, thermal and mechanical analysis, cost engineering and product definition. An ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems and make balanced decisions across technical and business parameters Good communication and presentation skills at all levels of the organisation Knowledge of Digital/Automation tools/principals as well as geometry creation in NX To work for the Rolls-Royce Defence Business there may be a requirement for an individual to hold a level of National Security Vetting (NSV).
