JS Legal Recruitment are excited to be working with a highly regarded law firm based in Colchester, our client is a LEXCEL accredited and a Legal 500 recommended practice. Due to continued growth, our client has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Legal Secretary to join their Wills & Estates department on a full-time basis.
The Team
The Wills and Estates team is well established, offering a high-quality service to its clients. Our client requires a confident, efficient, and experienced legal secretary to support a senior solicitor and director with a busy caseload.
Our client is seeking a team player with a driven and professional attitude, who is willing to go the extra mile for clients and colleagues. You should have significant and current experience working as a Legal Secretary, ideally within a private client department.
The Role
1. Provide support to a senior solicitor and director of the firm with a very busy caseload.
2. Prepare, format, and proofread legal documents.
3. Manage and organise the solicitor’s calendar, including scheduling appointments and meetings.
4. Act as the first point of contact for clients both on the phone and in person.
5. Arrange client meetings.
6. Prepare and manage legal documents such as Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, and Estate Planning documents.
7. Assist with billing, tracking and managing time entries for billable hours.
8. Assist in the preparation of probate applications and the administration of estates.
9. Manage compliance on all files via the case management system, including conflict checks and risk assessments, escalating them to the lawyer if required.
10. Conduct legal research.
Skills Required
1. Previous experience as a legal secretary in Private Client, Wills and Estates, particularly in a fast-paced environment.
2. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, audio, and document management systems.
3. Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and handle sensitive information with discretion.
