Environmental & Sustainability Manager
Location: South Lanarkshire
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 negotiable dependant on experience plus package and car / allowance.
One of the country's leading railway contractors providing specialist services in a variety of disciplines including Civil Engineering, Electrification and Specialist Plant is looking to hire a Environmental & Sustainability Manager to ensure that the established environmental and sustainability policies of the company are implemented.
As the Environmental & Sustainability Manager you will:
- Develop, implement and maintain the environmental and sustainability procedures for the company.
- Ensure compliance in terms of environmental, biodiversity and sustainability management with regulations and Network Rail Standards.
- The control, development and maintenance of the Environmental Management System and associated Procedures and Work Instructions.
- Manage and work with Project Teams to ensure delivery of E+S requirements and provide technical advice, guidance and support on environmental and sustainability matters.
- Implement and develop business cases to support the implementation of the environmental and sustainability requirements.
- Maintain SSIP accreditation and update environmental and sustainability information to pre-qualification and supplier portals including but not limited to RISQS, UVDB, Considerate Contractor, CHAS.
- Maintenance and review of the environmental aspects of the Principal Contractors Licence (PCL) and On-track Plant Operators Scheme (POS) for Network Rail.
- Work closely with Project Managers to ensure compliance of environmental procedures within their area of responsibility to ensure that accreditation is maintained.
- Undertake regular internal audits.
- Monitor any non-conformances, ensuring accurate deadlines are set and helping relevant managers/auditees to meet these deadlines.
- Ensure environmental objectives and targets, including those needed to meet requirements of process and product are established.
- Liaising with external parties to ensure any relevant new legislation is dealt with.
- Undertake and assist into environmental incident investigations.
- Perform site audits and inspections.
- Identifying new and amended environmental requirements/legislation where required.
- Attend environmental and sustainability meetings with both QTS, external parties and clients as required.
- Energy assessments at offices and sites. Analysis of energy savings opportunities. Implementation of energy management and savings projects.
- Collation of energy and environmental data and compilation of reports.
- Encourage and promoting positive environmental behaviour.
- Assist in any other aspect of the Company where required.
For the role of Environmental and Sustainability Adviser, you should have the following skills and qualifications:
- Degree in Environmental Science or related subject.
- Chartered Member of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) (or equivalent).
- Internal Auditor (ISO 14001)
- Environmental Management Systems experience.
- Previous experience in Rail. Personal Track Safety (PTS).
- Understanding of UK policy, environmental legislation, regulatory frameworks, and experience in briefing senior managers and site teams on changes in legislation or policy and how these might affect their area of work.
- Ability to influence and promote a positive ES culture and take forward contract/framework requirements.
- Competence in environmental incident investigation and interpretation of regulatory requirements, including consent management.
