£12.15 hour. Flexible working. Minimum 6 hours week. Additional hours and one waking night per month also available. Immediate start.
We are looking for an exceptional person to join our team of carers in the role of personal assistant for a young man living with muscular dystrophy. This 14 year old young man lives in Darlington with his parents and a small, very cute dog. He attends mainstream school locally, uses a powered wheelchair, plays powerchair football nationally, enjoys time with his friends, festivals, camping, holidays and city breaks.
Are you a warm, fun and bright individual with a passion for care and supporting others to live their best life? We are looking for someone to provide 6 hours of care and support to make a real difference to a young man, broadening his horizons, developing his independence and supporting him to access leisure activities and engage in activities in the community. This might include walks, going to the cinema, to café’s and restaurants, to events locally and live music events.
This young man needs some level of support with all aspects of personal care, including toileting, showering and dressing, taking medication and meal preparation. Carers use a range of equipment to aid with personal care and transfers including a slide board, ceiling hoist and mobile hoist. Full training will be provided.
To cover one of the following shifts each week.
Thursday 3pm – 9pm, Friday 3pm – 9pm, Saturdays 10am – 4pm or 4pm to 10pm
Monthly waking night 3pm until 10am (19 hours) (Friday or Saturday)
Additional hours available:
Weekday mornings (term time) 7am – 9am
Weekday evenings (term time) 3pm – 6pm (or 9pm)
School holidays Monday to Friday 8.30am – 3.30pm
You should have a full, clean driving licence and will have access to our fully insured mobility vehicle. It is a large wheelchair accessible vehicle, so some confidence driving and parking a larger vehicle would be useful. This will always be available for all activities and transport to and from school.
Your workload may also include some household chores for the individual and supporting them with making food and snacks and to follow a healthy diet, and also enabling the young man to enjoy time with his small, excitable dog. This is a lovely opportunity to make a difference to a young man and his family in a positive, warm environment. We welcome interest from all backgrounds and experience, as all training will be provided. We are a neuro diverse friendly family.
All successful applicants will be subject to references and DBS check.
