Job overview
The Estates department at Furness General Hospital is a group of highly skilled electrical, mechanical and plumbing engineers, creative building craftpersons, and dedicated support staff.
We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Building Services Engineer to join us. You should be an experienced and time served Electrician, Plumber, or Mechanical Engineer looking to progress your career.
You will be part of a 7 person shift team providing 24/7 cover to the FGH and Millom hospital sites, and will be trained to specialise in healthcare ventilation and decontamination.
Main duties of the job
1. To ensure the safe and continuous operation of all engineering and building plant and equipment, in accordance with statutory requirements, codes of practice, guidance notes and Trust procedures to an agreed standard.
2. Out of normal office hours site maintenance responsibility. To be the department’s point of contact for all out of hours incidents and breakdowns, carrying out first line assessment, fault finding, repair, substitute of service and/or safe isolation as required.
3. To be the Trust’s Fire Controlling Officer and undertake the duties of that role for the site as a whole during a fire event. To be appointed Authorised Person for roles within Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) 1 to 8.
4. To carry out line manager duties for contractors.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Full Electrical, Mechanical or Plumbing and Heating apprenticeship up to HNC/HND + Specialist knowledge in relevant area or equivalent degree level experience.
* The following NHS specific training will be provided and must be undertaken in the first 12 months of post.
* HTM 02 - Authorised Person Medical Gas
* HTM 03 - Authorised Person/Competent Person Ventilation combined
* HTM 04 - Competent Person Water
* HTM 06 - Competent Person LV
* CP/AP Pressure Systems
* Boiler Operator Training
* Willingness to undertake further training
Experience
* Experience of engineering and building services installations
* Experience of HTM's and HBN's
* Experience of the capital bidding process
* Experience of security systems
* Experience and knowledge of legal, statutory, and non statutory legislation
Skills
* Ability to deal with information confidentially and sensitively
* Ability to work unsupervised including within unsociable hours
* Excellent communication on all levels
* Good leadership, influencing, planning, and team building skills
* Good analytical skill
Personal Qualities
* Ability to comply with all trust policies
