Working as part of a team within the Purchasing Department, the Assistant Buyer is responsible for the day-to-day management of a group of designated supplier accounts. This role includes general purchasing transactions, monitoring of purchase order progress, on-time order delivery, cost control, inventory turns, and supporting aspects of supplier quality.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Support the Procurement team in the development of product category strategies by undertaking market analysis and research.
2. Take accountability for a small product category to support future development.
3. Assist the team in data collection on vendor performance.
4. Collate Request For Quotation (RFQ) responses and complete costing sheets.
5. Support buyers in the critical path management of pre-production samples for new tenders managed by the procurement team.
6. Support team in collating vendor samples and brochures for new product/solution innovation to sales.
7. Manage vendor Invoice Queries and resolve in agreed timescales.
8. Produce and maintain information on vendor non-conformance.
9. Support buyers in collation of reports for vendors.
10. Support the procurement team in undertaking due diligence of vendors and ensure that new vendors are recorded and registered on business systems.
11. Develop and maintain a supplier database to strengthen the procurement process.
12. Liaise with vendors on quality problems in conjunction with company quality standards.
13. Maintain technical reference files for all bought components and related suppliers.
14. Interrogate the company ERP system to determine purchase demands, applying value judgement as necessary.
15. Raise and manage purchase orders generated on the company ERP system in compliance with the ISO9001:2015 Purchasing Procedures and department Best Practice Guides, ensuring that they are accurate and reflect the current MRP/business demands.
16. Contribute to continual improvement to improve business processes, reduce lead-times, and work cooperatively with other team members towards improving the purchasing operation.
17. Comply with all necessary general company administrative requirements.
