An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional, experienced individual to join our charities as joint Independent Chair.
The new joint Chair will foster an environment of consensus and collaboration, ensure each charity’s mission and vision is met and provide inclusive leadership to the Charitable Funds Committee membership (the nominated representatives of the Corporate Trustee), ensuring that members fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charities.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:
• A strong and visible passion and commitment to each charity, their strategic objectives and causes
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities and be comfortable in an ambassadorial role
• Experience operating at a senior strategic leadership level within an organisation, with a knowledge of charity governance and working with or as part of a Board of Trustees
• Significant experience in chairing meetings and events
• Previous NHS experience is not essential, however a broad knowledge and understanding of the health, social care or disability sectors is preferred

The Royal Liverpool University Hospital is the largest hospital in the country to provide inpatients with 100% single bedrooms and focuses on complex planned care and specialist services.

Time commitment:
• Chair a minimum of 4 Charitable Funds Committees per year.
• Monthly strategic planning sessions with the Group Chief Marketing and Communications Officer.
• 1-2 days month working with key community leaders and major potential supporters, representing both charities at various events and meetings with key stakeholders where appropriate.
• The role requires a time division of 2/3 with UHL Charity and 1/3 with Liverpool Women’s Charity
Remuneration and Term
• £13,000 per annum. Remuneration is taxable and subject to Class 1 NI Contributions; it is not pensionable.
• The Independent Chair is eligible to be reimbursed for travel, subsistence and other associated costs necessarily incurred on UHL Charity and LWH Charity business in accordance with the appropriate policies.
• The initial appointment will be for a period of one year, after which further term(s) of office may be offered subject to strong performance in the role.
