Subject Leader for English
Required from September 2025
Welcome to Hadley Learning Community!
We are a school that proudly serves and sits at the heart of the local community of Hadley in Telford. Our vision is that every child belongs to our school and community, respecting others and importantly themselves. We believe that their hard work and dedication inspires others and brings success in all their endeavours. Furthermore, we strive to ensure every child enjoys their learning, friendships and opportunities at Hadley Learning Community.
Our recent Ofsted report in June 2022 celebrated our “high expectations for pupils’ behaviour” within “a highly ambitious and inclusive curriculum”. They reached the conclusion that “the school could be judged outstanding if we were to carry out a section 5 inspection now”.
We are seeking to appoint an inspirational leader of our English department; someone who can inspire our learners to have a passion for English. English is at the heart of our ambitious curriculum and a key area for development within the school. We aim to appoint a leader who will be instrumental in further shaping and enhancing the position of the subject within the school.
The appointment will need to be an energetic, innovative and inspiring teacher who can lead a team of staff forwards to further improve outcomes in English. It is a fantastic opportunity to join the English team that has excelled in so many areas. The department is built on solid foundations and is going from strength to strength, with the outcomes now broadly in line with national data. This post is suitable for both experienced leaders and proven teachers who want to take the next steps in their career. We would also consider additional whole school responsibilities in order to support the career of the right candidate.
This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, ambitious and energetic individual to lead one of the most important subject areas. Our school is one of the best in the country and we need an individual who wants to work at that level to drive languages forwards.
We pride ourselves on:
* Our most recent OFSTED inspection being graded as ‘good plus’ (June 2022). Key findings include:
o “Leaders are acutely aware of staff well-being and workload. The vast majority of staff feel well supported both personally and professionally. Staff appreciate the time they are given to work together in departments to plan and evaluate the curriculum. Staff are highly supportive of leaders and are proud to work at the school.”
o “There is a calm and orderly environment. Pupils are polite and respectful to staff and visitors. Bullying is extremely rare and pupils have full confidence in staff to deal with any issues that arise.”
o “Teachers have high expectations for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).”
* Being an oversubscribed and popular school, located close to the M54 and M6, in easy reach of Birmingham, Staffordshire, Shrewsbury and Wales.
* Being a highly innovative, driven, inspirational and ambitious organisation with a clear vision for achieving success.
* Being part of the Learning Community Trust. This facilitates an opportunity to play to your strengths and provide excellent collaboration between colleagues and leaders, access to effective CPD and the chance to develop professionally. The Trust is committed to invest in and develop all staff and, most importantly, bring about the best possible outcomes for our students who deserve the very best.
* Our strong commitment to staff wellbeing and recognition. We can offer you a range of benefits which include free parking, a comprehensive wellbeing support package, a laptop and access to the on-site gym and swimming pool.
