Royal College Approved Post CCT Complex Spine Fellowship Neurosurgery
NHS Medical & Dental: Specialty Trainee (ST3 +)
Job overview
The Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust wishes to appoint a post CCT Complex Spine Fellow in Neurosurgery for a period of 12 months, starting in September 2023. This is a Royal College of Surgery approved fellowship program. The post will be ideally suited to a senior trainee (Post CCT) wishing to undertake a sub-speciality fellowship in complex spinal surgery. Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the busiest elective neurosurgical spinal units in the country and provides 24/7 complex spinal emergency on call service and is a Major Trauma Centre. There is no separate orthopaedic service which makes neurosurgery the referring point for a variety of spinal pathologies.
The post holder will be exposed to all aspects of spinal surgery (excluding paediatrics) including posterior, lateral and anterior approaches, intraoperative spinal neuromonitoring, spinal oncology, and Minimally Invasive Techniques. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a unit with 6 dedicated consultant complex spinal surgeons from both Orthopaedic and Spinal Orthopaedic backgrounds as well as 6 other consultant neurosurgeons with various subspeciality interests. All Consultants do elective degenerative spinal work. This post does not hold a National Training Number and longer appointments are unlikely to be arranged.
Main duties of the job
The Neurosurgical Department provides a regional elective and acute service across both sites of the Trust. The Senior Spinal Fellow will be expected to provide neurosurgical on call cover at registrar level on 1 in 8-12 full shift rota at the Hull Royal Infirmary site and be actively involved in research with an opportunity to register for a higher degree.
Working for our organisation
The Humber Health Partnership is one of the largest acute and community Partnership arrangements in the NHS, seeing well over one million patients every year and managing a budget of over £1.3 billion.
Made up of two Trusts - Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLAG) and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (HUTH) - our Partnership has significant ambitions and is committed to delivering world-class hospital and community services for the 1.65 million people we serve.
Together we employ nearly 20,000 staff. Our five main hospital sites are Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Scunthorpe General Hospital and Goole and District Hospital, for NLAG and Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital for HUTH.
As Teaching Hospitals working with the Hull York Medical School, we both lead and contribute to research in many areas - biomedical research, primary care, palliative medicine, cardiovascular and respiratory medicine, vascular surgery, cancer surgery, and oncology.
We believe that by developing a diverse, inclusive, innovative, skilled, and caring workforce, we can deliver excellent care to our patients and a great future for our employees, our Partnership, and our community.
