The successful candidate will play a key role in the establishment of a state-of-the-art electron microscopy (EM) connectomics laboratory at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB). They will provide essential support in setting up and maintaining the laboratory, ensuring that all equipment, chemicals, and protocols are in place for smooth operation. Responsibilities will include coordinating the procurement and organisation of laboratory supplies, assisting with sample preparation, and supporting researchers in daily laboratory tasks. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with cutting-edge technologies and support innovative research in neuroscience.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory management or technical support, preferably with experience in electron microscopy or a related field. They should possess excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage laboratory supplies, protocols, and equipment efficiently. Experience with sample preparation techniques, especially in a connectomics or neurobiology setting, is highly desirable. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team are essential, as is a proactive attitude towards problem-solving and supporting research. A degree in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent practical experience is required.
The successful applicant will be appointed, depending on experience and qualifications, at either MRC Band 5 within a salary range of £29,808 - £34,085 per annum or Band 4 within a salary range of £39,375 - £43,962 per annum. For appointment at Band 5 level, the successful appointment will hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in biology, biochemistry or related subject. For appointment to Band 4 level, the successful applicant will have a Master’s degree or equivalent in biology, biochemistry or a related subject.
