Main duties of the job
At Cygnet Healthcare, we have a strong occupational focus through support and direction from Clinical Leads and our Occupational Therapy Directors. We use evidence-based practice within each of our service lines, as defined by our clinical steering groups, of which Occupational Therapists play a key role. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will work as an autonomous clinician, providing specialist assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction. You will hold supervisory responsibility for others, and take a leadership role in specific projects. An integral part of this role will be supporting student education within the team.This role includes opportunities for learning, development and research, supported by a robust appraisal and supervision structure based on RCOTs Career Development Framework.

Service Line: Mental Health Forensic (Low and Medium Secure Services)
Salary:£36,808 £38,845 per year (an enhanced salary may be negotiable for anyone interested in this role who already has more than 5 years experience in a Band 6 equivalent role)
Summary of the site
Cygnet Bury is a large site consisting of 3 hospitals with a combined total of 15 wards. We have a Regional Lead of Occupational Therapy for the site and 3 Head Occupational Therapists for each of the hospitals to support the different services on site.
Clinical: You would be responsible for the assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction for 13 service users. The clinical role would focus on one ward within our male Secure Mental Illness and Personality Disorder Service (MIPD low secure, and medium secure). You will work with a full multidisciplinary team in a coordinated way to support each service user develop their skills and move through our clinical model of care from admission to discharge.
Leadership: You would report directly to the Head Occupational Therapist for the Hudson Hospital within Cygnet Bury, in the Secure Service line. You would also hold leadership and management responsibilities of the Occupational Therapy service of your allocated ward providing clinical and managerial supervision for activity co-ordinators and maybe allocated line management of an Occupational Therapy Assistant and/or a newly qualified Occupational Therapist. You will be required to share a leadership responsibility and consistently contribute to the Hospital wide Occupational Therapy provision across the 6 LSU and MSU wards within the Hudson Hospital. You may also be required at times to deputise for the Head Occupational Therapist.
Our secure services at Cygnet Hudson Hospital, Bury are therapy and recovery focused, providing assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for both men and women. The aim is to effectively progress service users though the secure care pathway, into the least restrictive environment possible while working to reduce the possibility of readmission back into secure care.

Under the leadership of our occupational therapy directors we support over 150 Occupational Therapists. Working together as a large team we provide support to each other across the group, with the opportunity to be part of specialist interest groups & become involved in service development.
Every service line has a clinical lead occupational therapist to lead and develop evidence based practice and agreed occupational therapy pathway.
We ensure our occupational therapists have a voice through participating in service model development, utilising the expertise and support of our clinical lead occupational therapists.
