The SRA is the independent regulator of solicitors and law firms in England and Wales. We regulate in the public interest to ensure solicitors and law firms adhere to high professional standards, to take action against those who fail to comply with their regulatory obligations, and to protect the public against risk.
The in-house Legal & Enforcement team at the SRA deals with contentious regulatory proceedings before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal and other related litigation. It also provides legal advice and case direction to our investigation teams and other internal teams at the SRA.
We are currently growing our Legal & Enforcement team and are recruiting to several legally qualified roles including Senior Legal Adviser, Triage Lawyer (same level as Senior Legal Adviser), Case Manager and Legal Adviser.

The role
We receive thousands of reports every year raising allegations of misconduct and regulatory breaches against those we regulate.
As a Triage Lawyer, you will provide high-quality legal and regulatory advice to our assessment team (known as Assessment and Early Resolution Team or "AERT"). This team conducts an initial assessment of every report we receive and carries out initial inquiries before deciding whether a formal investigation is required or not. In the role, you will oversee the assessment of the more complex reports that the team receives and, where appropriate, you will work with senior colleagues to escalate high-profile matters with your recommended next steps.
As well as having conduct of your own case holding, you will provide general case direction and deal with technical queries across AERT and conduct quality assurance for the team.
You will need to demonstrate a good understanding of the solicitors' regulatory environment as you will be involved in identifying and taking appropriate steps to manage complex, sensitive, or high-profile matters in an outcomes-focused and risk-based way. You will advise on and where required make formal decisions that are evidence-led and in accordance with the SRA's Assessment Threshold Test.
You will work in AERT and report to the Legal and Enforcement department.
