Plant / Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Bias)
Location: Coventry
Salary: Up to £40,000 per annum (depending on skills and experience)
Hours: 40 hours per week, generally between 6am-6pm, with overtime and on-call support as needed

Our client, a well-established manufacturing business specialising in advanced surface finishing solutions, is expanding their team to support ongoing growth. Operating multiple coating lines, they serve automotive and general engineering industries, delivering high-volume, high-quality coatings. This role is critical to ensuring machinery operates reliably and efficiently, minimising downtime across production.
Role Overview:
As a Plant / Maintenance Engineer with an electrical focus, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and optimising production machinery, primarily focusing on electrical systems. The ideal candidate will have a proactive approach to troubleshooting and maintenance, ensuring smooth production operations. Flexibility is essential, as the role includes occasional on-call support for emergency repairs, with additional pay for out-of-hours work.
Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
Carry out regular preventive maintenance on electrical systems to support continuous production.

Fault Diagnosis & Repair:
Diagnose and repair electrical faults on production equipment, including PLCs, motors, and automated systems.

System Installation & Upgrades:
Assist with installing and commissioning new machinery and upgrades to existing systems to enhance efficiency and reliability.

Process Improvement:
Work with production teams to identify and implement improvements in equipment performance and efficiency.

Health & Safety Compliance:
Ensure all electrical work complies with health and safety regulations, maintaining a safe working environment.

On-Call Support:
Provide occasional on-call support for emergency repairs outside regular hours, with additional pay for callouts.

Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and modifications, reporting to the maintenance manager as required.
Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:
* Proven experience in a maintenance engineering role with a focus on electrical systems, ideally within a manufacturing environment.
* Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills, with experience on PLCs, motors, and control systems.
* Good understanding of preventive maintenance practices in a high-volume production setting.
* Knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations.

Desirable:
* Experience in the surface finishing or coating industry would be an advantage but is not essential.
* Previous experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing sectors.
* Relevant electrical qualifications such as NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, including 17th/18th Edition certification.

* Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to respond quickly to breakdowns.
* Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
* Attention to detail and a methodical approach to maintenance and troubleshooting tasks.
* Flexible and adaptable, willing to work shifts, on-call, or overtime as required.
