TRANSPORT MANAGER
Working 5 days out of 7 (Monday to Friday can be arranged) 8.00AM - 4.00PM
£17.50 PER HOUR
People Solutions are pleased to be working with a client, a well-known distribution company, to support their delivery network across the UK.
We are currently recruiting for a Transport Manager for a hybrid/remote working managerial role on an initial six months basis, which could be extended for the right candidate.
This is a flexible role where you can choose to work from home or from an office based in a local store. All necessary equipment will be provided to work from home if required.

Day to Day Duties
* Ensure the highest levels of health and safety standards are met, utilising technology to enhance behaviours, working closely with Senior QHSE Manager, Contract QHSE Managers and Regional Area Managers.
* Actively engage in the Road to Zero initiative.
* Pro-actively lead the operations team to deliver high engagement of Health and Safety through Safety Conversations.
* Ensure minimum targets in behavioural safety observations are achieved.
* Adhere to business policies and procedures, ensuring full compliance with all internal and external auditing.
* Ensure all FTE and Temporary colleagues receive all required training prior to carrying out tasks on the contract.
* Fully investigate all incidents/accidents in line with set timescales, reporting through Fastworks and closing with a suitable outcome.
* Work with Regional Managers and Compliance Manager to achieve and maintain the highest standard of vehicle compliance and driver standards.
* Maintain all fleet as per set planner, capturing non-site fleet as they move through the network as per Compliance Manager's instructions.
* Investigate and escalate any PG9 offence to the Senior Management team, ensuring no risk to the site.
* Maintain robust control over site defect reporting, collaborating with Compliance Manager to ensure the best method for defect repair is used.
* Manage drivers' infringements through the DCRS policy, escalating where necessary.
* Investigate and account for missing mileage.
* Drive best practice for driver performance through proactive management and colleague engagement.
* Deliver service levels for the site, continually improving results in line with contractual KPI/SLA's.
* Ensure compliance for core fleet with Microlise.
* Accountable for all housekeeping, end-to-end systemic adherence, and ensuring all non-conformance is addressed and remedial action taken.
* Escalate all non-conformance as necessary.
* Work with Regional Operations Manager to assist in delivering all contractual obligations within budget.
* Manage and monitor colleague working hours through use of Telematics and T&A, ensuring WTD is not breached while validating operational effectiveness.
* Control temporary labour usage weekly.
* Accountable for specials being processed and acknowledged systemically.
* Work closely with HR Team to manage all site colleagues through policies and procedures.
* Hold regular performance reviews with direct reports, ensuring that SMART objectives are set and continually monitored/reviewed.
* Manage shift holiday allocation, adhering to site caps on the number of colleagues off at any time.
* Achieve 100% recruitment against all budgeted headcount, proactively recruiting any shortfall to budget.
* Process all new colleagues as per company procedure.
* Manage colleagues through AMP in a fair and consistent manner as per company policy.
* Complete all area disciplinary procedures up to, and including gross misconduct.
* Assist in delivering strategy for colleague engagement.
* Undertake any other reasonable tasks as required.
Essential Skills
* CPC holder.
* Understanding of key operational cost drivers and P&L or cost centre management.
* Confidence in utilising Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
* Full UK Driving Licence.
* Evidence of operational management experience in a complex logistics, transport & manufacturing environment.
* Change management experience with a focus on business improvement and transformational management.
* Wide-ranging communication techniques: written and oral, listening, influencing, positive body language and facilitation.
* Taking responsibility and demonstrating commitment.
* Evidence of respect and integrity.
* Analytical skills (structural & behavioural).
* Experience of managing conflicting priorities in a fast-moving environment, with planning and organising skills.
* Decision making abilities.
Desirable Experience
* International CPC holder.
* Knowledge of logistics, policies and procedures.
* Operational understanding of team roles.
