JOB PURPOSE:
To assist in the overall management and control of Accountancy Service provision.
The post requires an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic Accountant. It is essential that as a minimum you should be a qualified Accounting Technician or hold an equivalent qualification and have experience of working in a public sector financial management environment. The post is for a period of 9 months to work on the Adult Social Care Finance Team to provide cover for the operations and management of the team as outlined in the job profile to facilitate a specific time limited project.
WHAT WE WANT YOU TO DO:
o To provide professional financial advice and relevant, accurate and timely information to support the strategic planning process and operational management.
o To represent the Strategic Director, Corporate Resources at meetings and working parties as required and to provide professional financial advice and relevant, accurate and timely information to assist the strategic planning process and operational management.
o To assist in monitoring, control and management of the financial resources of the Council and associated bodies in line with statutory obligations, standing orders and financial regulations to ensure proper public accountability.
o To assist in the development, operation and maintenance of financial information systems, to maximise potential use and improve the flow and quality of financial information.
o To provide for the maintenance and development of agreed performance standards, indicators and measures ensuring the ongoing provision of an efficient service.
o To assist in providing positive leadership, clear direction, training and support to team members to ensure high levels of performance.
o To assist in the relevant training of all stakeholders to ensure high levels of awareness.
o To carry out research and prepare reports and briefing notes as required.
o To ensure that all work carried out within the post holder’s areas of responsibility is
performed in accordance with the Council’s Health and Safety policy.
o Such other responsibilities allocated which are appropriate to the grade of the posts.

THE KNOWLEDGE
o GradeJ:•AATqualification or equivalent with relevant post qualification experience or CCAB qualification or equivalent
o GradeK:•CCAB qualification or equivalent and evidence of professional, technical and behavioral competencies as set out by the Service Director, Financial Management.
THE EXPERIENCE
o Knowledge of a financial environment o Accountancy software packages

o Ability to work with minimum supervision and organize own workload o Ability to work to tight deadlines
o Ability to liaise with a wide variety of internal and external clients
o Good IT skills
Hybrid working is available, but candidates would need to be able to attend Gateshead Civic Centre as and when required.
Pay rate: £22.65 p/hr
