The Forensic Fire Surveyor will be responsible for carrying out site visits to inspect existing buildings and new building works under construction via invasive and non-invasive methods. You will be responsible for documenting materials and defects in external wall build-ups and in internal compartment walls/floors. You'll assist the site investigation process by gathering and providing necessary information to carry out intrusive site investigation works during planning and throughout construction stages.
This will involve detailed site inspections, reporting, and coordination with fire engineers, building owners, and contractors to develop and implement remediation plans where necessary.
The role will be primarily site-based across Scotland and the North of England, with the flexibility to work from the office or home when the role allows.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct external wall cladding assessments, and compartmentation/firestopping surveys on buildings to compile and collate building materials, construction and defect information which can be used by Fire Engineers to evaluate the fire performance of a building.
* Assist in the technical pre-planning of forensic investigations by working closely with fire engineers and clients to plan and deliver intrusive and non-intrusive site investigations.
* Assist and conduct site audits in conjunction with PartB site technicians, clients and independent contractors.
* Prepare site reports based on investigations and audits.
* Be responsible for maintaining and upholding the highest standards of health and safety.
* Provide technical advice and assistance to clients and colleagues.
* Manage multiple projects to ensure workload is prioritised and completed on time.
* Ensure CPD requirements are met to broaden and develop skills.
* Constantly strive to improve understanding of new construction types, materials, general building design, Building Regulations and fire safety legislation.
* Undertake relevant training courses to gain qualifications to support the development of the role.
* Work both remotely and as part of a team to deliver projects to completion.
Skills & Qualifications (Preferable)
* Proven experience in a construction/building trade or qualification is essential.
* Experience in building control would be advantageous.
* Understanding of Building Regulation requirements of England, Scotland and Wales (Ireland would be advantageous).
* Understanding of fire risk management is desirable.
* Strong communication skills to feedback findings to PartB team.
* Comfortable working with others and supporting a cooperative environment.
* Have a pro-active approach to work.
* Experience solving complex issues through analysis.
* Excellent communication skills and pro-active.
* Good IT skills.
* Previous experience of agile and remote/independent working is essential.
* Ability to prioritise workload.
* Customer focus and strong interpersonal skills.
* Full UK driving license and willingness to travel to client sites as required.
* Periodic overnight stays across the UK are often required for larger projects
