Job Summary
We are looking for a proactive and innovative engineer to develop Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems for inspecting and monitoring carbon composite aero-structures. The ideal candidate will have experience designing, programming, and building hardware at a lab-scale level and be eager to lead research projects from conception to completion. This role involves collaborating with suppliers, contributing to project planning, and ensuring compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies. You'll play a key role in shaping cutting-edge aerospace technology while fostering a culture of innovation, transparency, and respect at GKN Aerospace.
Job Responsibilities
* Develop Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) systems to monitor and inspect carbon composite aero-structures.
* Lead and deliver research projects from conception to completion, making informed technical decisions to achieve project objectives.
* Collaborate with and manage relationships with sub-contractors and suppliers to support project success.
* Contribute to project planning and technical work as needed.
* Ensure adherence to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and processes, while fostering a proactive EHS culture within the team.

What You'll Bring
To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:
Essential
* A degree or Masters level qualification in an Engineering discipline, preferably electronic or electrical systems.
* Experience in one or more of the following areas: signal processing for ultrasonic systems, ultrasonic inspection techniques, electrical and electronic systems design.
* Competent in programming languages e.g. C# / Python / Matlab for the purposes of programming hardware.
Desirable
* A PhD or EngD in a discipline related to developing electrical/electronic systems in a lab environment.
* Understanding of electronic systems in Aerospace Industry.
* Software development experience.
* Understanding of guided waves in composite materials.
