Job Summary

As an Intern in the Powder Bed Additive Manufacturing (AM) team at GKN Engineering, you'll support the development and advancement of AM technologies for Aero-Engine and Space Product applications. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to innovative projects that shape the future of aerospace and space exploration.
You will be working in GKN’s Global Technology Centre (GTC) in Filton, Bristol, a £32m state-of-the-art technology research and manufacturing process development facility which is a hub for world-class innovative technology for the next generation of fuel-efficient aircraft. It includes a collaborative space for research and development with universities, the UK’s CATAPULT network and GKN Aerospace’s UK supply chain, to help strengthen aerospace technology and support the UK’s Industrial strategy.
How You'll Contribute
* Apply your engineering and material science knowledge to a wide range of research activities.
* Design products and test specimens, prepare AM build files, run simulations, and support product manufacturing.
* Engage in hands-on lab work investigating material quality through optical and scanning electron microscopy.
* Explore responsibilities from design and simulation to material characterisation, factory design, and developing software tools for data analysis.
* Collaborate with the UK’s leading minds in Additive Manufacturing and GKN teams across Europe.
What You'll Bring
Essential:
* Currently studying an undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Material Science.
* Enthusiasm for additive manufacturing with an interest in aerospace or space science.
* Experience with CAD packages (e.g., CATIA, Siemens NX, Fusion 360, SolidWorks).
* Hands-on manufacturing experience.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team.
* Strong communication skills in English and proficient IT skills.
Desirable:
* Experience with coding and machine learning.
