Engineering at Monzo
We’re looking for a creative, entrepreneurial and impact-focused Senior Director of Engineering to help us build one of the best, and most innovative digital banks in the world.
As a Senior Director, you’ll start by leading an organisation of ~50 Engineers and Engineering Leaders, which will continue to grow over the next 18 months. You’ll be leading our core consumer app at Monzo focusing on user acquisition, engagement, and personal banking product growth.
We’re aiming to be the app where our customers' financial lives are centered and they can get full transparency, visibility and control over their money. This role is fundamental to achieving this mission and making money work for everyone. You’ll build the foundations for a personalised financial experience, leveraging machine learning to improve our search, discovery, and personalisation features.
You should apply if you have:
* Led teams delivering personalisation, recommendation, or search products, with a strong grasp of successful execution.
* Experience leading an organisation of 50-100 individuals, including managing Engineering Leaders at Director level.
* Regularly pushed senior leaders to achieve better solutions through data-driven challenges.
* Over a ten-year track record of shipping successful, customer-centric digital products in a consumer tech company.
* Ability to make good decisions in complex situations where there’s often no “right answer.”
* Comfortable using data to ground thinking in analysis, identify key metrics and evaluate success.
* Effective collaboration with diverse teams and working styles, with the ability to constructively challenge and influence.
* Experience empowering marketing teams in paid acquisition channels, with a basic understanding of attribution and LTV estimation techniques.
The interview process:
Our interview process involves 3 main stages:
* Recruiter Call (30 mins) - Meet our Engineering Hiring Lead to discuss your experience and learn more about Monzo.
* Initial Call (1 hour) - Meet with one of our VPs of Engineering to discuss your previous experience, particularly in people, product, and technical leadership.
* Loop Stage (4 hours) - Consists of 4 x 60 min interviews over 1-2 days.
At all stages, we’ll create space for you to ask questions, as you’re interviewing us as well!
