Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled professional to take on a hybrid role that encompasses responsibilities across CDM Principal Designer, Construction Management and Project Safety Advisor. This role is critical to the successful delivery of an Advanced Manufacturing project, which is a nationally significant advanced manufacturing initiative focused on cutting-edge robotics, automation, and industrial innovation. Additionally, this role will support logistics, warehousing, and infrastructure developments for a national developer.
You will provide expert guidance on CDM Regulations 2015, oversee complex construction operations within an advanced manufacturing environment, and implement robust safety management systems. Your expertise will ensure compliance with UK legislation, high-quality project execution, and seamless collaboration between all stakeholders, including research institutions, developers, specialist manufacturers, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
This role presents the opportunity to work alongside a Mascot Management director in the delivery of the Advanced Manufacturing project while contributing to the development of our future pipeline of work in advanced manufacturing and industrialised construction.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the CDM Principal Designer function in accordance with CDM Regulations 2015, embedding health and safety considerations into the design and manufacturing integration process.
* Oversee the pre-construction phase, ensuring early identification and mitigation of design risks specific to robotics, automation, and specialist industrial equipment.
* Collaborate with research institutions, designers, engineers, and contractors to ensure compliance and effective risk management.
* Review and provide guidance on design risk assessments, construction phase plans, and safety file documentation, ensuring seamless integration of advanced manufacturing technologies into the built environment.
* Ensure buildability, maintainability, and usability are considered from the design stage to enhance long-term operational efficiency.
* Manage the construction of specialist industrial infrastructure and automation installations.
* Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of complex construction and industrial fit-out works, ensuring seamless integration between construction, automation, and precision manufacturing.
* Manage highly specialist subcontractors, automation suppliers, logistics, and site operations to deliver the project on time, within budget, and to the highest safety standards.
* Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations, CDM, HSE standards, and sector-specific regulations governing robotics, automated systems and machine safety.
* Develop and implement construction management plans, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS) tailored to high-tech manufacturing environments.
* Engage with academic and industrial research partners, regulatory bodies, and supply chain stakeholders to drive innovation and best practices in industrialized construction.
* Provide specialist consultancy and safety auditing for a national developer of logistics, warehousing, and industrial infrastructure.
* Conduct site audits, safety inspections, and compliance assessments within high-tech and automated manufacturing environments, ensuring alignment with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001.
* Develop and deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and workshops tailored to automation risks, industrial robotics, and specialist plant operations.
* Advise on emerging risks, digital construction innovations, and industry best practices, particularly in advanced manufacturing safety.
* Prepare detailed reports, incident investigations, and root cause analyses, contributing to an evolving safety framework for complex industrialised projects.
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Professional accreditation in Health & Safety, Construction Management, or Engineering (e.g., CMIOSH, CMaPS, MCIOB, RICS, ICE, or equivalent).
* Proven experience in Principal Designer, Principal Contractor, and Safety Advisory roles within advanced manufacturing, automation, and infrastructure projects.
* Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015, UK Building Regulations, and HSE requirements, particularly as applied to automated systems and high-tech environments.
* Experience leading high-value, high-complexity, nationally significant projects in industrialised construction, robotics, and precision engineering.
* Competency in risk assessment, digital safety frameworks, automation safety protocols, and compliance monitoring.
* Track record in managing multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, and high-risk construction activities within the manufacturing and logistics sectors.
* Proficiency in safety management systems (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001).
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with experience liaising with universities, government bodies, research institutions, and industry leaders.
* NEBOSH Construction Certificate/Diploma (or equivalent).
* Full UK driving license and willingness to travel nationally as required.
