This is an exciting opportunity to join our team delivering digital solutions to our Clinical Services Directorate. You and the team will be part of our clinical services product centre, which is a key component to realising the various NHS Blood and Transplant strategies. Our ambition is to deliver technology change to the business quickly, efficiently and safely and, most importantly, allow NHSBT to continue their core mission of saving and improving more lives.
As a senior test automation engineer, you will work within our delivery teams testing and ensuring that the software developed is safe for release and meets the business needs it was created for. You will lead the embedding of our test automation capability into the organisation and coach and mentor our junior testers in the test automation space. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to, and learn from, our NHSBT testing community of practice which will create and share testing best practice, but also provide the opportunity to learn about other areas in the organisation outside blood such as donor experience, clinical, and organ donation & transplant.
Main duties of the job
In this role, you will be ensuring the safe and effective delivery of IT-enabled services through thorough software and hardware testing and administrative support.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. To lead and manage the automated and manual technical testing plans and implementation for Clinical Services IT systems.
2. Play a key role in the modernisation of Clinical Services technology, which includes the conversion to an automated testing base.
3. Lead embedding a test automation capability into the organisation which will improve the testing effectiveness and the speed at which the Clinical Services Product Centre will be able to deliver change.
4. You will be typically working within a collaborative multi-disciplinary squad focusing on a particular release where your role will be to write test scripts, conduct the testing and review the output to ensure the technology change performs safely and meets business requirements.
5. You might be expected to work on multiple projects at the same time and will be expected to manage your time and priorities with minimum support and supervision.
6. You might be required to travel and spend time away from base, which might involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential:
- Degree level qualification in a related subject or equivalent experience.
- Postgraduate diploma in software testing or equivalent experience.
Experience Essential:
- Significant experience in the role of system test automation engineer.
- Knowledge of software testing in an Agile/Lean software development environment.
- Expert knowledge in black box and white box testing.
- Knowledge of software testing in an Agile/Lean software development environment.
- Significant experience of working with Information Technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Good knowledge of software testing standards BS7925-1 & BS7925-2.
