Adecco are pleased to be recruiting for an Investigator FMIT to join Cumbria Constabulary.
This role will be based at the Penrith Police Headquarters.
It is a full-time role working on a temporary basis until at least October 2025. You would be working Monday - Friday, 37 hours per week. This role is fully office-based, with a salary of £16.71 per hour.
JOB PURPOSE
To be an integral member of Cumbria Constabulary's FMIT; investigating major and complex crime, serious and organised crime including complex non-recent abuse cases and cold cases of homicide and rape; under the direction of the Head of Crime and or Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) team.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. To work as part of a team and conduct investigations under the direction of the SIO or deputy SIO. This will involve:
2. Completing Major Incident Room (MIR) actions with a view to identifying, gathering, securing and preserving evidence and other relevant material and third party material to achieve a fair investigation for a fair trial ethos.
3. Recording evidential accounts from victims, witnesses and professional witnesses by recording witness statements and or conducting interviews following the Achieving Best Evidence (ABE) guidelines where current skills and training allow.
4. Conducting suspect interviews under caution having a full understanding of current law, codes of practice, national guidelines and procedures, including the ability to apply their own experience and judgement to progress the aims and objectives of the interview.
5. Conducting house to house enquiries, trace interviews and eliminate (TIE) enquiries and search team duties.
6. Gathering, documenting and maintaining evidential continuity of any exhibits relating to an investigation including performing the role of the exhibits officer.
7. Reviewing third party material in line with the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996 (CPIA) and the Attorney General's guidelines on disclosure.
8. Conducting intelligence research where current skills, training and access to systems allow.
9. Preparing casework reports for submission to the Crown Prosecution Service and onward case progression pre and post charge.
10. Ensuring the welfare needs of victims, witnesses and those under investigation are taken into account at all times.
11. To be competent to attend court or any other hearing/ proceedings as a witness if necessary.
12. To conduct investigations to the highest ethical standard, maintaining accuracy and achieving a fair investigation for a fair trial ethos with the Code of Ethics overarching everything.
13. To conduct investigations in support of the HOLMES system in line with MIRSAP, the Core Investigation Doctrine and other force policy, procedure and national best practice.
14. Liaise with, and prepare correspondence for victims, witnesses, suspects and other bodies and agencies in connection with an investigation.
15. To provide a source of expertise and act as a point of reference for major investigations and all other FMIT functions.
16. To be prepared to work extended and unsociable hours when required in relation to the full range of work of the Force Major Investigation Team.
17. To be able to deal with vulnerable witnesses and procedures now in place and to be able to provide, on occasion, suitable victim/witness support.
Experience & Knowledge
1. Working as or have experience of working as an accredited investigator on a live investigation.
2. Full driving licence holder.
Desirable
1. Statement taking and audio/visually recording of victim and witness accounts, suspect interviewing, HOLMES major incident enquiry team experience, giving evidence in court or other proceedings.
Education & Training
1. Accredited Investigator under the ICIDP programme or previous CID Foundation process.
Desirable
1. PIP 2 specialist Interviewer (formerly Tier 3).
2. Previous PEACE model interview training.
3. Police IT system trained.
