Please refer to the full job description & person specification Collects, using venepuncture procedures, blood samples from adult and paediatric patientsin a variety of settings, selecting the appropriate equipment for the procedure. Collect venous blood samples for blood culture testing selecting the appropriate equipmentand adhering to specific infection control measures and policies. Monitors and maintains the health, safety and security of self and patients during thevenepuncture procedure. Practices within risk management/ occupational health legislationand Trust procedures, and is aware of potential hazards. Collects samples from patients in high risk categories and is aware of potential hazards. Isable to follow agreed protocols to minimise risk to self and others. Is aware of the clinical conditions and precautions that are necessary for sample quality tobe maintained during the venepuncture procedure, and makes the decision of appropriate siteselection, correct use of tourniquet and selection of blood sample bottles. Is proficient in performing Point of Care sample testing and be able to make a judgementsto meet the requirements of the clinical investigation unit assessments, typically analysingsamples and following the appropriate SOP. Ensures that blood sample bottles are accurately labelled in accordance with departmentalpolicies and procedures. Ensures that clinical samples are correctly packaged for transportation to the laboratory inaccordance with the policies and procedures of the Pathology Department. Is proficient in the use, maintenance and quality control procedures of the departmentalequipment. Works to ensure that departmental performance targets are met by continually assessingpriority of own work; taking into account individual needs of the patient. To monitor patientdemand levels in the clinics. Is fully conversant with and works to relevant departmental policies and Standard OperatingProcedures, ensuring that personal performance complies with ISO standards (Internationalstandards organisation). Provides support to junior members of staff, and encourage best practice. Is proficient in measure and record blood pressure (BP), weight (WT), and BMI assessmentusing the departmental/trust IT system. Maintain and update patient files as and when required. Contact patients for rebooking and appointment scheduling, ensuring correct printappointment cards, letters, and picklists for clinics and sent in a timely manner. Create and manage clinic schedules, including adding slots and cancelling clinics on thedepartmental/trusts IT systems. Liaise with other hospitals to retrieve blood test results following the appropriate performanceindicators.Information Technology: Is able to use the departmental /Trusts computer system to check emails and participate ine-learning To view and move between several open applications simultaneously e.g., site specific ICEapplications, EPR, printing screens
