This post is based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary and is a fixed term appointment,
The post holder will be expected to participate in a 1 in 10 Reg on call rota to include perspective cover. You will be part of the cardiac arrest team.
The post offers the successful candidate an opportunity to contribute to the further development of an established service in our Elderly Care department and be part of a developing Frailty Same day emergency care model.
Our Frailty SDEC provides a 7-day service which works closely with emergency colleagues in ED and the community to help patients return to their normal place of residency at the earliest opportunity.
The post will also incorporate working as part of out CotE team at the RLI. This team consists of six elderly care physicians who are based across three Care of the elderly wards and an Acute Frailty Unit. We also provide an orthogeriatric service at the RLI in reaching to our wards.
There is an active Day Hospital at RLI where elderly care clinics are held also.

The post holder would be expected to share in the duties mentioned to support the increasing number of elderly patients attending RLI by rotating within the CotE wards, orthogeriatric pathway and Frailty SDEC service as well as support the Reg on call rota.
When covering elderly care and Frailty SDEC you will be working within a multi-disciplinary team overseen by a consultant physician geriatrician, ACP, resident doctor team and an experienced ward nursing team.
The role will include medical assessment and triage of medical admissions, along with ongoing management, organising investigations and treatment planning for patients with a range of illness and complex rehab needs. You will practice across inpatient wards and emergency department and contribute to the provision of a high-quality service.
The post holder will be expected to provide excellent communication with GPs and members of the multidisciplinary team and to be involved in clinical audit and other clinical governance responsibilities. UHMBT has a strong focus on learning from incidents and embedding learning and improvements in our services. This is supported by our governance structure within care of the elderly and the trust.
You will be expected to actively engage in meetings for improvement of service.
You will ensure that all clinical activity is recorded accurately and comprehensively and submitted via the clinical system (currently Lorenzo.)
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
