An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced registered neonatal nurses to join our Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse team on the Neonatal Unit at Hull University Teaching Hospital. The post holders will be welcomed into a substantial and supportive Neonatal team.
We are looking for highly motivated and dynamic Neonatal Nurses who can provide clinical expertise in the delivery of specialist care to neonates and their families. You will need to demonstrate leadership within the team, with excellent communication skills and be able to provide a supportive culture for teamwork and learning.
Hull University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust NICU is a well-established level 3 Tertiary unit within the Yorkshire & Humber Neonatal Network. The Neonatal Service comprises of 33 cots in total: 7 Intensive Care, 10 High Dependency, 12 Special Care, and 4 Transitional care, providing a high-quality service to the network and beyond.
Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will play a vital role within the team in both staff and service development. You will be expected to co-ordinate care on a daily basis and deputise for the Junior Sister in her absence. Participation in audits, benchmarking, and undertaking some managerial responsibilities will also be a vital part of this role. Good communication and team-building skills, and the ability to support and develop staff are essential.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be working clinically as a valued member of the nursing team. You will work in partnership with the Unit managers to provide highly skilled clinical practice, be a role model, and provide leadership for a ward-based team of qualified and non-qualified staff. The post holder will be required to co-ordinate the Neonatal Unit on a daily basis and ensure a positive patient experience through the delivery of high standards of evidence-based patient care. The role will include:
1. Leading nursing practice within the clinical area.
2. Securing and assuring the highest standards of clinical care with the support of the Unit Manager and Junior Sisters.
3. Responding to the needs of the unit and seeking resolution in a safe and effective manner.
4. The effective reporting of clinical and non-clinical risk to the Unit manager.
5. Supporting the team of staff on duty.
6. Co-ordinating care delivery, admission, and discharge to the unit.
7. Liaison with the Neonatal Network regarding movement of patients.
8. Dealing with day-to-day complaints and queries from staff, parents, or relatives and escalating these as necessary.
Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
* Registered Nurse - Child or Adult Branch or registered Midwife
* Qualification in Speciality - Neonatology 405 or equivalent
* Mentorship preparation programme or equivalent e.g. 997 / 998, or on live register of mentors
* Evidence of professional self-development
* Evidence of Leadership / people management skills
Knowledge, Training and Experience
* Safeguarding children's training level 3.
* Newborn Life Support course certification
* Ability to teach & support others
* Awareness of research
* Proven ability to co-ordinate and manage own workload appropriately.
* Responsive to change
* Ability to challenge complacency and unsafe practice
* Clinical expert in neonates
* Awareness of budgeting / resource management.
