About us
Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice in Cheltenham is Gloucestershire’s only inpatient unit for specialist palliative care. We support people aged 18 and over who are living with life-limiting conditions such as cancer, heart failure and lung disease by combining specialist medical care for managing pain and other symptoms with other emotional, practical and spiritual support. We are able to provide care on our inpatient unit, virtually and in person though our community hub and in people’s home though our Hospice at Home service.
About the role
In palliative care no day is the same. Working on our inpatient unit provides a unique opportunity because we care for patients with such a variety of conditions and symptoms. If you’d like to develop your knowledge of many different conditions and the impact this has on patients and their families a role in palliative care with Sue Ryder is for you. In addition to providing excellent care, our clinical team leaders manage a team of Registered nurses and Healthcare assistants ensuring the effective assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of high standards of holistic care for our service users. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Nurse who wants to work in a supportive environment where care of the patients comes first.
Some of the duties of this role include but are not limited to:
1. Recruitment, induction, development, supervision, appraisals of team members
2. Rota management including the provision of out of hours services.
3. Managing and accessing risk
4. Auditing and monitoring quality standards
5. Deputising in the absence of the Head of Clinical Services/Ward Manager
About you
If you’re ready for a new challenge in your nursing career and have minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse and an interest in palliative care, there is an opportunity for you to take the next step and become a Team Leader at Sue Ryder. You will be based in the In-Patient Unit working as an integrated member of multi-disciplinary teams. Our ideal candidate will have experience of working in a leadership role within Palliative and End of Life Care. They will be able to evidence additional, role specific qualifications and professional development and can offer support, leadership and mentorship to junior members of staff and the nursing team.
Minimum Requirements:
• Registered Nurse (Degree Level Desirable)
• Experience in specialist palliative care.
• Proven skills in leading, building and influencing in a clinical setting.
• Knowledge of current legislation within independent care sector
• Demonstrable experience of practicing in a self-directed and highly motivated way
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to communicate difficult messages to service users and their families.
• Negotiation and conflict management skills
• Able to effectively manage change and manage performance.
Sue Ryder provides a thorough induction with supernumerary time to settle into the role and full training/competency assessment will be provided. There is plenty of scope to further develop your own skills in specialist palliative care, and planned career progression through our education programme and development framework is encouraged.
