Specialist Occupational Therapist in Frailty

Band 5-6 development role or Band 6 with appropriate experience/skills pro rata if part-time
Band 5 £29,970 - £36,483 Per annum
Band 6 £37,338 - £44,962 Per annum
Hours: 37.5 per week as part of a 7-day working pattern, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
The Acute Assessment and Frailty Team (AAFT) are looking to recruit one Band 6 Occupational Therapist. This service provides a high level of holistic assessment and care for the frail population within the hospital.
We are looking for dynamic individuals with medical, elderly care or frailty experience to provide specialist frailty assessments and treatments as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions using evidence based/best practice.
The successful applicants will be highly motivated, flexible and innovative therapists. Good communication, time management and organisational skills are essential and you should be able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team. You will be responsible for supervising and training junior therapy staff and assistants.
It is essential that you have current HCPC registration and recognised qualifications as an Occupational Therapist.

This post is available as a Band 5 – 6 development role for experienced band 5 therapists looking to further their career. Specific training and competencies will be provided to support the transition between grades.
The successful applicants will get the opportunity to attend our new MSc Frailty module that we have developed with Northampton University. You will also benefit from support from our own dedicated Therapy Practice Development team.
• To provide advanced Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy assessment and treatment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions
• To be responsible for own case load within a predominately elderly care ward, working without direct supervision but with daily senior support as required
• To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
To work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and integrate working practices with community partners in order to facilitate timely discharge and readmission avoidance.
• To train and develop junior staff
To undertake evidence based audit to further own and teams clinical practice. Make recommendations to Manager / Team Leader regarding changes to practice and/or service policies and protocols.
• To represent therapies as a visible, knowledgeable, confident, supportive and high performing professional group.

Clinical
To be professional and legally accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care.
To undertake Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments for patients, including those with a complex presentation, using advanced investigative and analytical skills and to formulate individualised management and treatment plans, using clinical reasoning and utilising a wide range of treatment skills and options to formulate a specialised programme of care and signpost to other specialist or services revaluating as appropriate.

To be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through continuing professional development ( CPD) by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments and incorporate, as necessary, in your work. Maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development.

To be responsible for the supervision and co-ordination of junior staff, assistants and student on a daily bases in conjunction with the team leader.
To ensure that your own practice and that of staff under your supervision, meet the required professional standards of practise.
