Primary objective of this position: Responsible for providing Technical support across all areas of the Extrusion area. Ensuring all plant, equipment and tooling is 'fit for purpose' and running at optimum performance to deliver targeted OEE and material usage. To assist in developing and fostering a continuous improvement culture, continually seeking out cost reduction and efficiency improvement initiatives. Training and development of key employees to ensure all team coordinators, technicians, setters, assistant setters and material handlers are competent in their roles.
Key responsibilities and performance measures for this role:
1. Responsible for ensuring all Extrusion equipment, machines, robots, conveyors and tooling is capable and running at optimised performance, material usage is controlled within agreed targets and the OEE for the sections is consistently achieved on a monthly basis.
2. Responsible for the day-to-day management of extrusion setters.
3. Responsible for the procurement/introduction of new tooling, ancillary equipment and processes into the Extrusion Moulding Department.
4. Manage CIT activities within Extrusion.
5. Responsible for the maintenance of all setting parameters and tooling records.
6. Provide day-to-day support to Plastic Processing Department as requested.
7. Responsible for health, safety and environment of work area.
8. Utilise slow work periods to improve machine efficiencies.
9. Assist the NPD process as required to produce components on time and to cost.
10. Identify equipment not fit for purpose, propose cost-effective solutions to maintain production.
11. Ensure all work that is undertaken is completed safely and with relevant authorisation.
12. Effectively manage available resources to achieve key objectives.
13. Be pro-active in all areas of the business.
14. Design and deliver regular communication briefings to ensure team awareness.
15. Facilitate and deliver targeted communication sessions when required.
16. Training and development of employees to provide required competency levels across the plastic processing section utilising skills matrix to identify areas for training.
17. Work in conjunction with the maintenance team to improve equipment and tooling downtime and implement repairs within agreed timescales.
18. Ensure all new tool and hose trials are completed within agreed timescales.
19. Ensure scrap levels are measured and actions are taken to optimise.
20. Work with our sister companies to share best practice.
21. Comply with the Health and Safety responsibilities as defined in the company health and safety policy, and ensure that any specific responsibilities are adequately delegated in their absence.
Minimum Academic Qualifications / Experience:
1. Supervisory/managerial experience in manufacturing environment (ideally FMCG).
2. 5+ years experience in a Plastic Processing Extrusion environment.
3. ONC/HNC production engineering or Engineering Management Experience.
4. Demonstrate effectiveness in achieving key objectives and performance indicators.
5. Experience of managing budgets would be an advantage.
6. Work experience in a seasonal business would be an advantage.
7. Experience working within a Plastic Processing Environment would be an advantage.
