We are looking for an Autism Study Buddy to join our team, to support a student at Lancaster University during the 24/ 25 academic year.

We provide support across various universities for students with varying disabilities, including hearing and visual impairments, physical disabilities and SpLD's. We are looking for the right individual to support a student on campus, commencing towards the end of September, 2024.
As a Study Buddy, you will support the student to develop their independence and autonomy whilst studying at Lancaster University. You will accompany the student in sessions, prompt them accordingly, as well as help to ease any potential anxiety when over-stimulated.
Benefits:
1. Working termly timetables averaging around 24 hours per week (excluding holidays).

4. Interacting directly with your student - YOU help them to achieve their goals.
5. £11.44 per hour + holiday pay, benefits app and pension.
Responsibilities:
6. Escorting the student from the bus stop to the required location (whether this be a lecture, seminar, or somewhere else on campus). Taking the student back to the bus stop at the end of the day.
7. Accompanying them in classes, being a person of familiarity in an unfamiliar environment.
8. Supporting the student with their social difficulties due to their Autism.
9. Supporting the student when over stimulated, especially in crowded, loud environments.
10. Provide support and reassurance for the student when adapting to the academic demands of higher education.
11. To help the student maintain their motivation and concentration.
12. To assist the student with transitioning to university by helping them to understand the routine of university life.
13. Support with building independence, communication with peers and staff.
14. To liaise with Randstad (and the Disability support team, where appropriate) regarding the students progress or on any matters regarding a student's support needs or well-being.
15. Please note, the student is high functioning and extremely academically capable so this role does not require any tuition related support, it is solely to assist when managing and regulating themselves when they are experiencing feelings of being overwhelmed.

16. Knowledge of Higher Education.
17. Knowledge of the barriers that disabled people may experience in higher education.
18. An enhanced level of skill and experience of working with disabled people.
19. Ability to work independently.
20. Attention to detail.
21. Commitment to principles of equality of opportunity.
22. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
23. Flexibility and punctuality.
24. Good organisational skills.
25. Understanding of confidentiality issues.
26. Understanding of role boundaries.
27. Autism and Neurodiversity knowledge.
28. Experience with supporting individuals with Autism is desired.
