This apprenticeship gives you the chance to gain hands-on experience at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust while studying at Wakefield College. You'll pick up useful skills and knowledge that you can take with you on your journey in healthcare. Plus, it's an excellent stepping stone for future opportunities in nursing!
We welcome applicants with no previous care experience, and we'll support you throughout your apprenticeship. We provide a comprehensive training programme, starting with the Care Certificate, and an induction in our award-winning healthcare academy.

To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you'll need GCSEs in English and Maths at grades 4-9 (A-C) or Functional Skills Level 2, and must not have previously started an apprenticeship in the same field. You must also be aged 16+ and have been a resident in the UK/EU for the last three years.
Please also note that this role is not on the Home Office list of occupations eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route.
Main Duties of the Job
The role is a key part of the nursing team, offering compassionate care to patients, carers, and relatives at the Trust.
You will work under the direction of a qualified member of staff to ensure the safe and skilled delivery of a range of clinical tasks.
You will need to maintain a professional appearance at all times and build positive, respectful relationships with staff, patients, and families.
You will protect the privacy, dignity, and confidentiality of individuals, ensuring that equality and diversity are respected in everything you do.
During your apprenticeship, you will learn the necessary theory and skills to undertake a range of core clinical skills, including but not limited to:
* Venepuncture, blood pressure, cannula removal, heart rate monitoring, temperature, swabbing, samples such as urine dip, wound care and simple dressing, pregnancy tests, and catheter removal and insertion.

Understanding Your Role
* Working under the direction of a registrant, participate fully in the delivery of planned nursing care, within the boundaries of your role which may include chaperoning of patients, escorting/ transferring of patients and providing 1-1 patient-centred care or caring for a group of patients that require enhanced care.
* Demonstrates own duties to new starters and supervises work of students and healthcare support workers.
* Frequent exposure to emotional/distressing events, e.g., breaking of bad news.
* Assist in the care of patients at end of life and after death.
* Orders supplies under the direction of the nurse in charge.
* Participate in patient and public involvement activities.
* Participate in general cleanliness and tidiness of ward environment.
* Undertake mandatory training and role specific training relevant to role.
* Record and escalate patient physiological observations.

* Complete a mandatory BKSB initial maths and English assessment as part of the apprentice enrolment process.
