Tutor – Horticulture
40 hours / 37 weeks position per year

Actual salary for 37 weeks per year: £20,171 – £26,066 per annum
FTE Salary £24,717 to £31,941 per annum

Ruskin Mill engages the students in practical skills therapeutic education (PSTE) and provides social enterprise opportunities for students working on the farm, growing biodynamic produce for the college kitchens, residential provision, and the farm shop. As the Horticulture Tutor, you will help the day-to-day running of Gables Horticulture to produce fruit, vegetables, and herbs for the college using biodynamic agriculture principles and methodology. The Trust recognizes that there is a strong link between the quality of healthy food and the methods of farming and gardening employed. You will support The Trust to employ biodynamic methods in the production of all food grown on the Trust’s property.
You must be able to instil enthusiasm and enjoyment into the learning process in such a way that can lead to increased self-esteem and enhanced engagement in learning.
The key duties in this role will include:
1. To plan and deliver sessions to a small group of students in Horticulture according to their individual learning needs and requirements.
2. To be a part of ongoing assessment of students' learning needs and to make reasonable adjustments as required minimizing barriers to learning and achievement.
3. To support biodynamic agriculture and horticulture and work to Demeter biodynamic standards in all food production.
4. To embed the Trust’s food and nutrition policy.
You will also be expected to attend training sessions as required by the Trust, which may be outside of your usual working hours.
Applicants for tutoring posts must hold, or be working towards, or be prepared to work towards relevant teaching qualifications in accordance with government regulations.
