Job overview
We are recruiting for a Senior Income Accountant who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
The Finance Department at East & North Herts NHS Trust is a One NHS Finance Level 2 accredited department, awarded for achieving consistent good practice in Finance Skills Development.
Joining the department, you will be working in a high-performing Finance team, providing excellent support and advice to the organisation on all matters relating to finance, and joining our Trust on its journey of improvements through our ENH Production System programme, in partnership with the Victoria Mason Institute.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and conscientious individual who has keen eye for detail and a strong work ethic.
You will have a strong background in an NHS Finance role and will be a leading expert on activity pricing and charging, demonstrating excellent working knowledge of the NHS National Payment Tariff System.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Income Accountant will ensure the development, maintenance and application of income monitoring and reporting systems to support the Trust's income performance management.
You will support the Head of Income with the development and reporting of income plans and forecasts, developing robust control processes to ensure that income is accurately identified and recovered within the NHS payment scheme framework.

Qualifications / Training
Essential criteria
* CCAB recognised accounting qualification or equivalent experience.
* Educated to graduate level.
Desirable criteria
* Degree in a relevant discipline.
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
* Significant post-qualification experience.
* Relevant experience of income management in an NHS contracting setting including the complexities of income validation challenges.
* Experience of contract negotiations.
* Significant exposure to senior management.
Desirable criteria
* Significant NHS Acute Provider finance and systems experience.
Skills
Essential criteria
* Use of Microsoft Excel to an advanced level.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and oral to non-financial managers at a range of seniority levels.
* A credible ambassador for the Trust with senior staff from commissioning organisations.
Desirable criteria
* Use of SLAM (Civica software) income tool.
* SQL
* Power BI tools
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of NHS national tariff payment rules.
* A sound understanding of acute healthcare patient pathways.
Desirable criteria
* Familiarity with Power BI software would be highly advantageous.
* Understanding of standard costing and cost allocation methods in the NHS.
