Summary
The Defence & Security (D&S) Division within Telespazio is responsible for all the activities from winning new orders to the delivery of the projects.
The delivery side of D&S is split into two customer facing Business Areas (BA): One on Client-Side managing work supporting defence and government organisations directly whilst the second on the Supply-Side manages our input to the delivery of capability into defence and government either directly or as part of broader consortiums.
We are currently recruiting to provide the Client-Side BA with a Senior Systems Engineering Consultant to work within our Government facing UK Defence projects.
Responsibilities
The Senior Systems Engineering Consultant is responsible for providing Satellite Communications Systems Engineering consultancy support to multiple delivery areas within our government facing team. The role would suit a senior systems engineer with experience in both hands-on satellite communications engineering, including user terminals and also with programme/project management experience in a defence environment.
Qualifications & Experience
1. Degree educated in an Engineering discipline or professional experience demonstrating equivalent competence in the discipline may be acceptable.
2. Minimum of 9 years experience working within Space/SATCOM in Defence, European or UK Space programmes.
1. Military and Commercial User Terminal Equipment.
2. Satellite Ground Station Equipment.
3. Verification, Validation and Testing.
3. Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a Defence environment. This should include:
1. Requirements definition.
2. Tender evaluation.
3. Mentoring and technical development.
Essential Skills
1. Currently holding, or capable of obtaining, UK SC clearance.
2. A strong communicator both verbally and in writing.
3. Experience presenting to both clients and colleagues.
4. Practical knowledge or working experience of systems engineering practices within the space domain from requirements engineering through design/development and on to test and service release.
5. Experience working on satellite and terrestrial communications projects.
6. Practical experience of Radiation Safety, RF/IF Engineering and associated RF/IF distribution systems.
7. Understanding of satellite service delivery and their associated management, monitoring and control systems.
Desirable Skills
1. Experience working within a defence organisation and/or on defence focused space programmes/projects.
2. Ability to be cleared to an enhanced level.
3. An understanding of the MOD procurement process.
4. Experience working to the principles of Knowledge in Defence and ISO:15288.
5. Strong knowledge of system engineering principles, practices, and methodologies.
6. Installation experience of satellite systems conforming to MOD/UK Government/NATO/ECSS regulations.
7. Experience of producing Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
8. Knowledge of military User Terminals, their deployment and subsequent installation.
9. Knowledge of Satellite construction, AIT, delivery and final system testing.
10. Knowledge of cryptography as applied to satellite communications systems.
11. Project management experience.
12. Definition of Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies and Opportunities (RAIDO).
13. Test campaign planning and execution.
14. Knowledge of DLoDs.
15. Knowledge of technical input to cost modelling.
