Hogarth are looking for a VFX Environment Look Dev Artist.
What does a VFX environment look dev artist do at Hogarth?
Our VFX environment Look Development (Look Dev) Artist is responsible for defining and refining the visual appearance of 3D assets in a production. The goal is to ensure that the models, textures, lighting, and shaders all come together to create the desired aesthetic for a project, whether it’s a photorealistic motion piece or sets of images, or somewhere in between.
The VFX Environment look dev artist will specialise in creating the final look of our realistic and immersive full 3D digital environments that could
be seen as a real-world locations. From the sweeping highways stretching into the horizon, the urban streets illuminated by neon reflections, and the rugged off-road trails where vehicles are pushed to their limits—every detail of the textures to prop placement and lighting for a crafted real-world is the ultimate end goal.
Responsibilities
Work with the VFX Environment artists and supervisor to define the visual appearance of full 3D environment builds that align with the project's artistic direction story and brief.
Use industry standard 2D and 3D software (Houdini, 3DS Max, Maya, Z-brush, Photoshop, Substance, etc,) to create 3D world materials, lighting, shaders etc.
Collaborate with our in-house pipeline team to organise 2D/3D and USD files for our Environment artists and supervisor to use and access.
Work closely with our creatives, concept and asset creation artists, as well as our Environment supervisor.
Understand and follow all production workflows and procedures, ensuring assets meet specifications through quality checks.
Reporting lines and key stakeholders
This role reports to the CGI Environment Supervisor and will work closely at times with all our global CGI teams.
Requirements
Proficiency in a variety of 2D and 3D tools, including, Houdini, Maya, Z-brush, Substance, and Photoshop for high-quality asset creation for both still images and motion shots.
Deep understanding of 3D world creation for CG filming, and the creation process and expert knowledge in CG shading, texturing and rendering and look development.
Capable of delivering photorealistic environment concepts that can be used seamlessly in film and media productions.
