Job overview
Retrieve is the South West’s dedicated Adult Critical Care Transfer Service (ACCTS) and operates 24/7/365 managing referrals and transfers of critically ill and injured patients from two operational bases located in Peninsula (Launceston, Cornwall) and Severn (Bristol). The Band 8a Lead Nurse is responsible for continuous service development, quality improvement implementation, maintenance of team infrastructure, and operational delivery. The Lead Nurses in both bases must work closely to manage and deliver the service.
Retrieve Severn is looking for an enthusiastic and organised individual with a background in critical care for this one-year, fixed-term maternity cover contract.
Main duties of the job
The Base Lead Nurse will:
1. Lead and model the multi-professional team, ensuring clinical care is of the highest quality and standardised according to national guidance.
2. In partnership with the Clinical Director and stakeholders, develop and maintain up-to-date evidence-based transfer protocols and guidelines.
3. Provide specialised knowledge and skilled nursing care for critically ill adults requiring transfer.
4. Oversee the Training and Education team to support a high-quality in-house education programme.
5. Manage and maintain effective control of the service budget.
6. Monitor service effectiveness with the Lead Consultant for Audit and Research through audit and statistical data collection.
7. Ensure operational, clinical, and performance data is submitted to national databases reliably and effectively.

2. Contribute to national adult transfer service development.
3. Be an active member of the South West Critical Care Network Transfer Group.
